There are four sections on the GMAT: analytical writing, integrated reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning. The analytical writing section allows you 30 minutes and consists of one essay. The integrated reasoning portion is allotted 30 minutes and consists of 12 questions. The quantitative reasoning part allows 75 minutes and contains 37 questions. Finally, the verbal reasoning part allows for 75 minutes and is 41 questions long. Today the student and I reviewed the rules for radicals. We did quite a few practice problems on the whiteboards. Then I introduced a new algebra concept of factoring algebraic expressions. We first practiced finding the prime factorization of regular whole numbers and then we moved onto finding the factorization of simple algebraic terms. I reviewed the concept of the greatest common factor and of distributing.

The student and I continued going over the problems for his homework assignment. We started with thermodynamics (specifically using specific heat/temp/moles/mass to determine heat capacity).  We also started electron configuration.

We worked on categorizing groups of words that belong together and finding the word in a group that does not belong. We also looked for words in a paragraph that had the same meaning of another given word. We continued to work on classifying sentences.

Focused on the Integrated Reasoning Section after reviewing some Math and Verbal quizzes. In Verbal, Critical Reasoning is a problem, so the student will do a bunch of questions focusing on that. The Integrated Reasoning problems were very difficult, so the student needs to practice those more. as well. He'll take a complete test again this week.
