I see learning as an extension of having a natural curiosity about the world, and I hope to communicate the importance of this to my students regardless of which direction their academic pursuits take them.
I grew up in Toledo, Ohio and have lived and traveled all over the US. I've also traveled overseas and spent six years living in Germany.
I studied Photography at the Cleveland Institute of Art and have a Master's of Fine Art in Public Art and New Artistic Strategies from the Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany. Working as a fine artist is an excellent way to indulge my interest in a variety of subjects from the role of free speech in society to the history of suburban development.
I enjoy tutoring because of the opportunity it provides to encourage students' intellectual curiosity. Seeing the joy of learning when a concept "clicks" for someone is one of the perks of the job. I also appreciate the mental stimulation tutoring provides for me, exercising my brain in different ways than I do with my artwork or other activities.
