Tutoring review by Jackson in Winter Garden, FL
Today, we looked at adding and subtracting rational expressions. The student is fluent with the key concepts, but struggles a bit when it comes to accuracy. I had her perform several large, busy work style problems to help underscore the importance of accuracy in math. Additionally, we looked at algebraic equations that had rational expressions. Next week our plan is to look at English.

The student and I talked about how his second math assessment test went. He said he felt a little bit better about this one. He had a study guide for science to complete that is due next Monday. It covered cell theory, prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic, and cell organelles. He was prepared for the eukaryotic vs. prokaryotic questions. We finished up with division, multiplication and square numbers practice.

We worked on solving inequalities containing absolute values. This included graphing and word problems. The student was demonstrating a much higher degree of proficiency with the algebraic maneuvers than I have seen in past lessons.

We finished up covering matrices, and did some operations with them. We began working on a full length practice test, finishing up through about question 25. The student was able to complete most questions quickly and with great accuracy. He ran into a counting/ possibility problem that he was unsure how to solve, so we will look more closely at those next session. We will also look over the remainder of the practice test.

Tutoring review by Chris in Winter Garden, FL
We went over the general ACT format and looked at the different subject tests and what sorts of questions they asked. We read through the directions to each subject test since they never change and do not need to be read on test day to save time. We did some practice problems in the science section (one of the student's weakest sections) and looked at the writing sample and the reading section structure.

Tutoring review by Audrey in Winter Garden, FL
The student is working on financial literacy in math--budgeting, understanding and balancing checking accounts. He did not have any specific homework but I reviewed work and concepts he had already completed. We reviewed vocabulary such as deposit, ATM, direct deposit, and PIN. He seemed to understand the concept that he couldn't write a check for more than he had in his account. When money is deposited, it is added to his balance. One skill he had some problem with was writing the value of coins in decimal format. He then reviewed some multiplication facts. He still struggles with remembering them, as we hadn't reviewed in awhile. I had him complete a 3-digit by 2-digit multiplication problem, and he did a great job.
