I am a former high school STEM teacher with a passion for teaching, certified in Secondary Math and Biology. I LOVE math and science, and what they tell us about the world. As a teacher in Detroit, I've worked with students of all ability levels and learning styles, so I have a lot of strategies in my tool belt for tackling difficult concepts. I am a lifelong learner, teacher, and researcher in the field of physics. I received a PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan and a BS in Physics from Rice University. I have four years of physics teaching experience at the University of Michigan, primarily undergraduate laboratory courses with an emphasis on electromagnetism, circuits, waves, optics, and real-world applications of these and other physical phenomena. Many of these courses, including one I helped design, focused on helping non-STEM students master physics concepts that may be difficult to grasp in a standard classroom setting. I have tutored in a variety of subjects since high school, but most recently I have spent several years helping students understand concepts and succeed in coursework throughout a large variety of college-level physics topics, from basic mechanics to advanced electrodynamics and special relativity.

I'm a senior studying Literature and Creative Writing with a Music minor at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). My interest in tutoring began during my high school years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I taught guitar lessons and developed curriculums for INNO, an educational summer camp. Since then, I've been developing my academic, artistic, and instructional skills at university, facilitating leadership workshops and first-year dialogue sessions while taking courses in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum. I've been an editor of the NYUAD student creative publication, Airport Road, and I maintain a career as an independent singer/songwriter, often creating music for theater projects both on and off campus. In addition to my sessions through Varsity Tutors, I am currently a peer tutor at the NYUAD writing center, where I work with students from a range of academic disciplines and participate in weekly pedagogical training. Through this work, I have developed a passion for helping students identify and improve their communication skills. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is when I am able to gain insight into the connections between creative and academic writing. I believe that effective storytelling is a central part of all good writing, so I try to help my students recognize both the story they are currently telling and the story they want to tell--and the steps they can take to move a piece from the former to the latter.

I am passionate about helping students. I believe that we all are learners and teachers. all of us are readers and writers. I have the ability to share my passion for learning with others, and one of my greatest strengths is building relationships with students which is the corner stone to successful learning and teaching. I believe that there are no bad kids or bad students, it's just that we all have different paths and ways of learning, we all have a different pace. As a teacher i strive to acknowledge that and find ways to support all students, adapting to their needs and paths, meeting them where they are at. It is my job to believe in every single student and help them believe in themselves. When I am not teaching or engaging with students, I like to read, walk, hike, travel, explore, work out, watch my favorite shows. I enjoy playing and watching ice hockey, and I try to go home to visit my family in Italy once a year.

I am in the 8-year direct med program at Virginia Commonwealth University. I plan to receive a major in Bioinformatics and a minor in Mathematics. I have a plethora of experience tutoring elementary school students in math and reading as well as high school students in AP Chemistry, ACT, and college admission essays. I am most passionate about helping students learn content, tips, and tricks needed for them to excel on the ACT as well as about helping kids establish a strong foundation for their pre-algebra skills. I hope I have the opportunity to get to know all of you and help you succeed in your endeavors!

I am 26 years old born and raised in Seattle Washington, University of British Columbia graduate and current 3rd year medical student. You may look at my accomplishments and assume I must have had a very consistent successful education process. This is not necessarily true, I struggled throughout high school with coursework and was slowly falling behind my peers. I was working very hard but was not getting the academic results that I wanted. I also reached out to academic tutors to help me understand core concepts in various subjects that my peers were not having any trouble with. Even during my undergraduate degree, I reached out to various academic tutors to give me an extra viewpoint on various difficult subjects and concepts. I understand what it is like to need extra help with coursework, I understand growing curious minds and the concepts that give many trouble because I have been through it. I am now a dean's list student at the top of my class in Medical school, and I can truly see how possible it is for any student to reach their academic goals no matter where you have come from. I believe the most intelligent individuals are the ones who can identify their weakness and seek help from others to succeed.
