Hello, my name is Sam and I am a cardiovascular physiologist and professor of Anatomy and Physiology. I have a background in biomedical engineering and physics and am currently finishing up my doctorate in cardiovascular physiology with a focus in microcirculation, hemodynamics, oxygen transport, and the effects of aging on skeletal muscle hemodynamics. A student should choose me to help facilitate their learning because of my extensive experience with teaching and tutoring. I have been a professor for the past five years and have taught hundreds of students the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology. Prior to that and up to now, I taught organic chemistry and tutored high school and university students in various STEM classes. All of these experiences imparted on me what I believe to be the fundamental tenet for any prospective tutor and pedagogue: there is a spectrum over which students and individuals learn and assimilate information. As such, you must remain fluid and open to continually learning, evolving, and adapting to various learning styles to provide effective edification.One of my greatest strengths is being able to critically analyze things and consider multiple opinions and perspectives. I've gained a lot of knowledge over the years but even that has its limits and I think it is important to remain open to being able to change one's views or thoughts on a matter, be it of a personal nature or something epistemological.

I am a graduate of James Madison University. I double majored in English Literature and Arabic. In college, I started tutoring students of all ages. I assisted them in various areas of study, including essay and Arabic grammar. After college, I worked at a refugee center with children of immigrants. I helped them to adjust to a new environment, while simultaneously adapting to the public school curriculum. I am also a certified ESL/TESOL teacher and have experience teaching groups of students as well as providing individual lessons.Working in different environments, with a diverse range of students, encouraged me to explore more creative tutoring methods in order to understand and communicate ideas. Through my experience as a tutor, I developed a multifaceted approach to teaching and learning; a style that is adaptable and uniquely catered to each individual personality. I have found that humor and games are particularly effective in motivating students to achieve in subjects they may otherwise find dull or abstract.While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about languages and literature. I have spent much of my life traveling abroad and have a deep affinity for culture. Some of my hobbies are painting and drawing and playing music; I also love dancing and hiking.

I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the VCU School of Business. I've been a mentor for the past four years and am very active in my method of tutoring. I have helped several students with official tests and homework assignments.My strengths are in Math and Science courses. I am also very proficient in Microsoft Office as well as other computer-related skills.

I love helping kids to understand and appreciate the applications of math. I volunteered as a mentor with middle school students while attending the College of William & Mary, where I received a BS in Mathematics. After college, I worked as a tutor at a public high school, teaching algebra and geometry. More recently, I received an MS in Statistics from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I tutored undergraduate students as a teaching assistant. I believe that tutoring works best if the tutor and student work together to figure out how to best help the student learn. My goal is to help the student become independent and empowered in their education. I am available for in person and online tutoring.

Since graduation, I have worked as a 7th grade Reading Language Arts teacher in Dallas Texas at a newly formed public all boys school. This has provided me with great experience and insight into how students best learn and how to create culturally responsive lessons that students will engage with. I am most passionate about English, Literature, History, and Spanish. In my experience, working to prepare students for state standardized tests has had the additional benefit of helping students to discover what they enjoy reading about. This increase in intrinsic motivation to read has had an important impact on struggling students. I am dedicated towards ensuring that students are provided with an education that increases their quality of life.In my spare time I enjoy reading short fiction, photography, skiing, coaching weightlifting, and traveling with my family.

I recently graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Commonwealth University's College of Humanities and Sciences, Departments of English (major), Anthropology, and Religious Studies (minors). Now that I've completed my undergraduate degree, I am pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching - Secondary Education degree so that I can teach English in a high school setting. I have tutoring experience with levels K - undergraduate pertaining to reading comprehension, profession, creative, and academic writing, ESL, Social Sciences, Anthropology, and Religion. Out of these subjects, Anthropology is my favorite to tutor because it is something I don't get to use as much in my graduate program.
