I am a graduate for CSU Bakersfield with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Middle Eastern History. I am currently in the process of returning back to school to pursue my teaching credential. I graduated from Columbia University with a Master's in International Affairs, specializing in international economy and East Asia. I used to tutor as an online oral English teacher when I was in college, helping students across China in all age groups overcoming the initial difficulties of mastering a foreign language. I enjoyed the interaction with people from different backgrounds. It was also a very fulfilling moment to see how my knowledge and skills have helped to empower others. I began teaching high school English in Hawaii in 2012 through Teach For America (TFA). TFA is one of the most selective teaching programs in the country accepting just 11% of applicants as of 2011. I finished my first year in the classroom by being chosen to be the youngest AP Language teachers in the state and spearhead the program at my school. I built a curriculum tailored to the students needs and interests and was not afraid to tackle difficult subjects head on through literature and writing.My second year, I was also asked to run the theater program at the school. I worked with the students to write an original musical as well as find creative ways for the students to express themselves. I also coached the cross country and track team at the school - teaching leadership, teamwork, and perseverance.I know I can tailor curriculum to your specific needs and interests. I am not afraid to push for growth while simultaneously creating a nurturing learning environment.

I am a retired math teacher from San Diego Unified School District where I taught primarily 6th grade through 8th grade math. I tutor lower level math to Algebra. My favorite subject to teach/tutor is Pre-Algebra since it is the gateway to the upper level math classes.I try to show the students that there is math all around them and show them how it can relate to their daily lives. When I teach and tutor, I try to make it fun and encourage them.My outside interests are photography, hiking and traveling. These interests eventually took me to Africa where I started my teaching and spent 7 1/2 years. During that time I learned the language and the culture.

I recently received my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State. I've always loved puzzles and problem solving, so naturally math and science have always been my strong suits. As a matter of fact, Calculus was, and still is, my favorite subject. As an Engineer I am also well grounded in Physics and Chemistry. I've always been a good test-taker and I know what it takes to get the grades. I know that it can make a huge difference to have some one-on-one help. I like to have fun with whatever I do, but more than anything, I want to make a difference. In my free time I love to play and listen to music or play any kinds of sports (especially ultimate frisbee).

I have a degree in marketing management but spent several years as a senior technician in both nuclear power and nuclear waste remediation. When not studying for the healthcare degree that I'm pursuing, I am learning to paint, snowboard, golf, and am also learning to play the guitar. I just graduated from the professional program at Second City which provides invaluable skills in adapting to different students' styles and for keeping things light and fun; two things which math is not famous for.

I've tutored with nonprofit organizations such as Urban Youth Impact and Reading Partners, served as an instructor in the military overseas and as a contractor for a Fortune 500 company, and worked as a teacher in the California public school system. Through this variety of experiences, I've worked with many great educators and students, and found that everyone has a teaching and learning style that works best for them, and the key is finding a match. For myself, the most important attributes in my teaching ability are passion, patience, and perception. Bringing life to the material with creativity and insight kindles and a greater interest in the learner. Having the patience to follow the plan of execution helps the student feel at ease and puts them in a better mindset for success. I did my undergraduate at UCLA and was a Molecular Biology and Ecology major. I grew up in Southern California most of my life and went to a local high school in Woodland Hills, CA. I took AP courses such as AP calculus, government, biology and chemistry.I have been tutoring in various subjects including all levels of math, chemistry and organic chemistry, biology and social sciences since I was in high school. I have tutored after school programs in middle school, high school and college level courses. I have over 10 years of experience in tutoring. I enjoy learning and teaching all subjects, but if I were to choose one subject it would be biology. I love teaching math too. With my patience and methods of teaching, I make sure the students learn very well at their comfort levels.
