About Me

PhD, Art History || As a certified Varsity Tutor for AP, IB, GED, GRE, GMAT, SAT, PSAT, ACT, ISEE, FTCE, AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP European history, IB Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, IB History HL/SL, Historical Investigation paper, IB Groups 1-3, 6 Studies and language and literature, language acquisition, individual and societies, the arts; literature, writing, editing, Art History and the Humanities, and many, many more --- I use learning strategies that increase student confidence, boost academic performance and learning outcomes, and enhance current academic performance all while having fun learning about the visual world around us and throughout history. I help students develop an appreciation of language and literature by developing critical thinking skills that help them engage with art and literature throughout history and understand the various formal, stylistic, and aesthetic aspects of these artifacts. My approach helps them develop strong powers of personal, educated expression through writing and speaking; gain an appreciation of various cultural differences and perspectives; and to learn how to language challenges and sustains ways of thinking and how we can challenge social norms are using critical thinking skillsMy goal as an educator is to provide students with the opportunity to discover new strengths and abilities and to conquer new challenges on their own terms with the help of a structured real or virtual environment. My primary strength as an educator and mentor is establishing a relationship with the student that is fed by a fluid and dynamic exchange of ideas and information, while remaining professionally in charge. I challenge students by engaging them in lively debates and critical thinking to facilitate their development as creative and articulate scholars. My approach to teaching and tutoring ensures that students recognize how the discipline augments skills related to the workplace and the real world. It is one of the best ways to prepare individuals to function at high levels in a rapidly changing world, a global environment that demands versatility and creativity in addition to basic career training. Analysis, argumentation, decision making, and strong communication skills are some of the advantageous skills derived from the study of the humanities. These abilities provide an essential foundation for engaged local- and global-citizenship as well as for successful careers. Likewise, I am diligent in setting deadlines, editing drafts of term papers, and sharing scholarly resources. My mentoring strategy is both nurturing and persistent, probing the students to find their authorial voice and then guiding them in discovering a logical mode of argumentation. This is a give-and-take exchange between student and mentor that fosters self-confidence and self-realization. I view all components of the educational process (program development, classroom teaching, experiential learning opportunities, academic counseling, and professional activity) as means to provide students with academic integrity and achievements that they can take beyond the classroom experience.

Hobbies & Interests

My favorite thing to do is visit museums. As an art historian, I love engaging with art and watching others' reactions to the art they are viewing - museum-people-watching! :) I can play any musical instrument, I am in love with my puppy, Pokie, a tiny rat terrier, I enjoy travelling most of all - (but Covid). I've been all over the world from Russia to Rio de Janeiro and have lived in Paris, Brazil, NYC, but recently moved back "home" to Winter Park, FL. As Mark Twain remarked, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
