My name is Diane and I am a medical student with a true passion for science. I have an undergrad degree in biochemistry and a Masters in Biomedical Sciences. I have been tutoring students for several years. I am someone that takes time to explain the material, and make sure you understand each concept presented. I enjoy helping students see things in a clearer way and discover new ways to solve problems. In addition, I am also available to tutor students in English and writing. I'm a masters student studying Linguistics at the University of Texas in Arlington. My research areas are primarily in Syntax and Psycholinguistics, investigating language at a very fundamental level.My undergraduate degree was in the same field, and was received from the same institution.In my time as a Linguistics undergrad, I worked with students as an Arabic tutor, helping them to better grasp grammatical concepts at the college level.Fundamentally, I believe that students are smart enough to grasp any concept, no matter how difficult. Oftentimes, teachers are unable or unwilling to craft explanations that best fit the mental framework of a student. Enter Tutors, highly individualized instructors able to fit the needs of each individual student, and allow them to excel to the best of their ability.

I am fascinated by language, by both the intricacies of its structure and by the awesome array of possibilities it can unleash when masterfully used. Give me a piece of writing, whether highly technical or enchantingly lyrical, and I will immerse myself in it and then quickly become “fluent” in its particular style.Just last year I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ithaca College with a degree in English Literature as well as a minor in Integrated Marketing Communications. At Ithaca, I was a proud member of the Sigma Tau Delta English National Honor Society as well as the interdisciplinary National Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi. Next fall, I will be beginning a PhD program in English Literature at Brown University in order to pursue my dream of becoming a college professor. Outside of the classroom, I am passionate about music, movies, Spanish and traveling.As a teacher, I strive to cultivate an organic interest in my subject matter while simultaneously developing a thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of that field. I do this by encouraging independent thinking in my students while guiding them through the sometimes thorny thickets of more structural aspects of our work such as grammar, punctuation, or source citations. It is my hope that my students will come away from my lessons not only prepared to succeed in their examinations and compositions, but also with a bourgeoning interest in these fields themselves.

I attended a Montessori school as a child and one of the most important things I gained from that experience was a sense of ownership over my own learning. It is easy for students to feel like passive participants in their own education and whether a student thrives or struggles in school often has as much to do with whether they have learned to play the game of getting good grades as it does with actual learning. When I work with a student I strive to form a personal connection with them and between them and the subject we are working on with the goal of helping them not only achieve their short term goals, but approach the subject in a more positive, productive way. One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my empathy and attention to each student's individual point of view; everybody has different ways of learning most productively and I strive not to drill in concepts, but to help students see how they can best approach material to make it intuitive and natural to themselves.

My passion for teaching combined with my years of teaching experience teaching these subjects means my students get the best from me.I took mathematics and science classes in college and undergraduate and went on to get Masters degrees in Earth Sciences and Business Administration/ Finance. While in graduate school, I was a teaching assistant and I have been tutoring these subjects since then. I enjoy teaching and helping students understand the concepts behind different topics. From my experience, I have developed an approach that starts by understanding the specific needs of different students and adjusting my teaching style to what is most effective at helping them understand the subject. I have applied this approach over my 6+ years of graduate assistantship and private tutoring with great results and I am most satisfied when students call to tell me about their much improved to excellent academic performance.

As a first-gen college graduate, I have been grateful and privileged enough to have a strong community for myself. I want to give back to students and hope to accomplish the same. I am honored to say that I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Education studies December of 2021. I have been very fond of teaching and tutoring since I was a few years old and now more than ever, I want to tutor students. I love to learn and love to teach much more. My experience involves working with students from 7th grade until 12th grade. I have worked in Madison schools as well as some in Chicago. Working with students gives me so much joy. I love to help the newer generations become the best they can be, just like those have done for me. My favorite subjects to teach are Algebra, Spanish, Geometry, Writting, College Applications, and Organizational Strategies. I love to tutor Algebra because I learned different fun approaches to teaching concepts! As a teaching approach, I am very patient, clear when communicating, and always find different ways of explaining processes/concepts. Outside of Academia, when I'm not applying to graduate programs, I love to go on bike runs, take pictures of nature, and will always be spending time with my amazing family.

I have been teaching over seven years high school and middle school students and always encourage my students to take anactive role in their learning.I enjoy reading, sports, and spending time with my family. I am very active in school as a Class Advisor, National Honor Society Advisor, and Community Service Coordinator.
