I am a mechanical engineering grad and current law student passionate about helping those interested in the STEM field

I am a graduate of Oberlin College where I majored in religion and classics. For three years at Oberlin I worked as a writing tutor, both in the drop-in writing center in the library, and as a course-specific tutor for various classes. My senior year I studied abroad at Oxford University where I got to study with some of the most knowledgeable professors and brightest students. I also graduated with high honors for my degree in religion.From my work as a writing tutor, and as a student myself, I know that sometimes the hardest part about writing is getting started. I love being able to help students find their interests and figure out how to write something that will not only be successful academically, but that they are going to enjoy. Writing can be hard, but it's my goal to help students find the fun and satisfaction in it as well.

I received my bachelor's degree from Butler University in 2011. I am currently completing graduate study in musicology at the University of Illinois. My research focuses on hip hop music and political life in Morocco. When I am not pursuing my own project, I am usually teaching. I have served as a graduate teaching assistant for U of I's Introduction to World Music course for two years. Before attending graduate school, I worked as a certified substitute teacher for K-12 general and special education in Michigan. I also volunteered as a literacy tutor with the Family Learning Institute in Ann Arbor, MI. While I am comfortable tutoring in a wide range of humanities and language arts subjects, I am most passionate about teaching English and reading comprehension. I believe students' advancements in these subjects positively impact all other academic areas. Every student can build confidence in reading and writing, and have fun doing it. I see education as a collaborative effort and I work to bring my students' personal perspectives into our lessons. Watching a student learn new things is exciting, but seeing them recognize the power of their own knowledge and experiences is even better! In my spare time, I enjoy making and listening to music of all kinds, reading and writing science fiction, running long distances (slowly), and spending a lot of time outdoors.

My teaching philosophy is to connect students academic knowledge to their personal life. I believe that by doing so students will be able to learn abstract academic concepts on a personal level. I'm a passionate learner and I love to spread the passion of learning on to other students along with quality content knowledge.I am a senior at Northeastern Illinois University Graduating in May 2017 with a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education and a minor in middle school Math and Science. I'm a passionate teacher and I love teaching using engaging and creative technology and resources. When I'm not teaching I love playing the Cello, Flute, and Drums. I'm very adventurous and travel at any opportunity I get.

I graduated from University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in May 2014. I got in the PHD program in University of Hawaii at Manoa with teaching assistance position in Fall 2014. But I decided to take a break.I have been tutoring for the last two years and have tutored over 1700 hours with all ages of students. Most of the time I tutor all levels of mathematics, but I also enjoy tutoring high school physics or chemistry. I tutor Mandarin Chinese as well. I love tutoring a variety of subjects.I have found that students sometimes have a hard time understanding the concepts or sometimes they just choose not to learn the concept. But I can always find a way to help them realize that math is not a complicated subject. What they really need is a little bit of encouragement and a little bit of practicing easier questions to build their confidence in math. My teaching philosophy is to build confidence for my students.Outside of academia, I like to reading novels, watching movies and listening to music. And I am a very out-going person and love to meet new friends.

I graduated from Williams College in 2007. I then received a Watson Fellowship, and traveled to Romania, Hungary, the Ukraine, and Morocco, collecting oral narratives from women in minority groups. Upon returning to the U.S., I began the PhD program in Comparative Literature at Northwestern University, with a focus in early 20th-century Latin American literature. I just finished my doctorate in December of 2014.During my time at Northwestern, I taught a variety of language and literature courses in both English and Spanish. I was also able to travel extensively: I studied and conducted research in Berlin, Paris, London, Sao Paulo, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires, where I lived for nearly three years.I love teaching and talking about anything to do with words--whether that means literature, reading comprehension, writing skills, grammar, or simply building vocabularies. I tutor the SATs, GRE verbal, AP Spanish, and Spanish language at all levels. I have a relaxed and approachable manner, and encourage my students to cultivate their own distinct intellectual style and to relate their studies to other kinds of interests. In my experience, students are most successful when they combine test-taking strategies with an authentic curiosity and an ability to enjoy what they are doing (even for standardized tests!). Learning and teaching always go hand in hand, and so when I am not teaching, I try to spend my time learning something new: I love reading, especially long novels, I have practiced yoga for six years, and lately I am interested in silent-era cinema, the history of medicine, and learning how to play my brand-new pineapple ukulele.

I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) Actor, Writer, and Photographer. I studied Communication at Cleveland State University with a focus in Public Relations. It is important to share knowledge. If I have knowledge of a certain subject, it is my responsibility to give back and share what I know with those who wish to grow in that field/ subject matter. Plus, the best way to learn is to teach, therefore, the sharing of knowledge always comes full circle.

I have demonstrated a best practice and research based model for learning that is effective in improving academic achievement at any level. I am interested in tutoring all ages. In the tutoring session, I use a planning backward approach, first identifying the learning target to be accomplished during the session. The second step, we discuss and assess what has already been mastered, and the third step is the teaching and learning process, the tutoring, to achieve the learning target set at the beginning of the session. We will end the session with checking if we hit the set learning target. This model works at every level, from a 3rd grader building reading skills or improving computation skills to a graduate student planning to write a review of the literature for a dissertation. I tutor children of all ages, high school students, undergraduate, and graduate students. My preferred subjects are essay writing, research writing, editing, composition writing, reading skill development, literature studies, history essay writing, application essays, and test prep skill development.

I studied at St. Ignatius College Prep and graduated summa cum laude from Villanova University (including a two-term stint at Cambridge University). Between Villanova and Northwestern I worked at an academic non-profit organization and evaluated hundreds of fellowship candidates' writing and academic work.I will work with each student to craft a personalized plan of study and improvement based on the student's strengths and challenges.

I am full time mom to the worlds cutest boy and on our free time we love being outdoors and spending time together as a family.
