I am working on my Bachelor's of Science in Physics at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. I am highly experienced in STEM courses, ranging from core secondary-level mathematics, to University Calculus. I teach my lessons flexibly, taking my students' learning style inventories into careful consideration. I employ strong connections in my tutoring, relying largely on analogous connections to my students' strengths and interests. I have no problem drawing interest out of a student for our worked subject. It is extremely rewarding to see a student grow, and understand your role in the intellectual growth observable in a student following their working with me. If you are interested in any help with Mathematics, Physics, SAT/ACT Preparation, E.O.C. studies, or even Reading and Writing, do not hesitate to contact me. The experience gained in my sessions will greatly augment you or your student on their road to success.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Virginia where I earned my Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision. I previously attended Old Dominion University where I completed coursework in counseling and in education. I have taught math in two highly competitive school districts and presently work as a STEM instructional specialist in 7 schools elementary, middle, and high school. The coolest part about teaching and tutoring math is that I can take an intimidating subject that many students don't enjoy and help them gain confidence and a connection to themselves. I take special care to make sure my students understand that it is okay to make mistakes and provide them effective feedback so that they learn from them. When necessary, I like to break down new concepts in to more basic skills so students can discover patterns and relationships owning their new knowledge instead of being told tricks and formulas.Ultimately, I do my best to build strong relationships with "my kids" and meet each individual where he or she is while providing the needed push to go beyond just "surviving" math class. When I am not immersing myself in the land of acadamia, you could find me hanging out with my own two children, reading, and watching sports.

I received my PhD in Higher Education from Regent University. I also earned a MA in Government and an M.Ed.I enjoy teaching anything, but really love English and political science courses, especially Political Philosophy and American government. I currently teach undergraduate courses in English, government, and education.I love to learn something new every day and I encourage all of my students to do the same. I know that some subjects are not the most interesting to every student, but I do my best to make each topic applicable to real life. I also make sure it is fun- because if you're going to learn something it may as well be enjoyable.I know that all students learn differently, so I incorporate a number of different teaching methods to ensure that I reach all students. I am very hands on and encourage my students to ask lots of questions. When I'm not being a super nerd, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

I am a Virginia Beach native and a 2011 alum of the University of Oklahoma. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Music in Composition. After working for a Fortune 500 company in the Great Lakes region for two years, I decided to move closer to home and start a career as a private tutor in order to better engage my intellect and creativity at work.I have provided music lessons and academic help on a professional and a peer-to-peer basis, as time permitted, for the last eight years. My experience includes mentoring for the JCOC Kids Club program and the U. of Okla. K20 college-bound program, presenting Brain Awareness exhibits as a member of the Society for Neuroscience, and assistant coaching a high school Mock Trial team.Tutoring goes best when the student is motivated, and I have two main approaches to motivating my students. First, context- a topic isn't interesting or important 'just because', we have to discover how it's related to our whole world and especially to things the student already knows they care about. Second, getting to know the student- everyone has unique talents, tendencies, and goals. There is an area of overlap between each school subject (even standardized tests, which require critical thinking!) and a student's goals, and it's usually bigger than it first appears. A star athlete doesn't just need to pass English to graduate; she needs to be able to write a well organized and error-free letter. In time, I'd hope to become the kind of tutor a student wants to impress, and whose tips and tag lines come to mind at unexpected moments even after the student is off to new adventures.

College English Tutor • +15 Subjects

I am a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Affairs with a focus on International Development. While in college I completed a study abroad program in Peru where I was able to develop my knowledge of cultural anthropology. I served as a nanny and homework helper throughout college which sparked my passion for tutoring.I like to focus tutoring on critical thinking and giving the student the tools to problem solve on their own. From this method, the student's confidence grows and they become more open to learning. This is a gateway into content mastery. With the tools to find the answers on their own, students can delve deeper into the information that they are learning.
