We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader. and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Calculus Tutoring review by Erica in Mesa, AZ
Started covering Calculus 1, specifically one and two sided limits, infinite limits, and finding horizontal and vertical asymptotes using limits, as well as finding the derivative of a function using the limit definition. We also covered some of the short-cuts for finding derivatives (i.e., the power rule, the product rule, the quotient rule, and the chain rule). Our current goal is to make sure that the student has at least seen most of the topics covered in Calc 1 when she takes it this fall.

Calculus Tutoring review by Eric in Mesa, AZ
Today we covered topics involved with the graphing of functions: first and second derivatives, critical points, asymptotes, inflection points, concavity, quotient rule, and chain rule. We focused on how to create a graph with givens: solutions to the function at various points, as well as signs of the first and second derivatives at different regions of the axes. The student seemed to have a basic understanding of the material and had struggles with some of the rules involved with solving problems. By the end of the session it appeared that some points of confusion were improved upon. The student was left with some practice homework problems provided by his professor. There were not any serious concerns. Todays lesson was a good transition from his previous tutor and he seems to be well prepared to finish the course with a passing grade. We have scheduled to meet on the remaining MWF until his final exam on Thursday, August 7th.

Calculus Tutoring review by Jennifer in Mesa, AZ
The student and I worked on integration. Specifically we went over the problems that I had given him last week. Then he learned about left and right endpoints and finding the area under a curve or within a function using summing techniques. We then went over the fundamental theorem of calculus and he worked on some definite integrals. I gave him some additional problems to work on before we meet again. I can see that he is really catching on to the material quickly and working very hard, which is excellent!

Calculus Tutoring review by Javid in Mesa, AZ
We covered topics such Intermediate Value Theorem and other rules of derivatives. We also touched on trig functions, their derivatives, and identities. We are almost finished with the packet that was assigned to her over summer. I told her to review some trig functions using graphing calculators in order to see how they work.

Calculus Tutoring review by Boris in Mesa, AZ
The student and I discussed re-introduction of L'Hopital's rule when evaluating limits. Divergence test for series, limit test, integral test and root test for series. A lot of work with series functions, all a necessity for the final.
