At Yale, Annelisa wrote across disciplines — art criticism, political journalism, scientific analysis — which taught her that strong writing adapts its voice and structure to its purpose. She tackles the specific challenge a student is facing, whether that's organizing a five-paragraph essay, developing a thesis with real argumentative teeth, or learning to cut filler and write with precision. Her interdisciplinary background makes her especially useful for students who need to write well outside their comfort zone.

Strong writing comes down to organizing ideas before touching the keyboard, and Steven treats outlining and argument structure as skills worth practicing on their own. His graduate work across two master's programs required constant written communication, so he brings real experience with everything from persuasive essays to research-heavy reports. Rated 4.8 by students.
Strong writing starts with a clear argument, not a clever opening line. Lindsay teaches students to outline before they draft, build paragraphs around single claims supported by specific evidence, and revise with an eye toward cutting filler. Her science background makes her especially sharp at teaching logical structure and precise language.
Getting ideas out of your head and onto the page in an organized, compelling way is a learnable skill, not a talent you either have or don't. Jessica tackles writing from the ground up — brainstorming strategies, outline construction, paragraph cohesion, and revision techniques that sharpen voice and clarity. Her elementary education background means she's trained to meet a wide range of writing levels without making anyone feel behind.
Spencer treats writing as a transferable skill with specific, learnable moves: crafting a thesis that makes a genuine claim, organizing evidence so it builds momentum, and revising with a reader's eye. His coursework and professional experience span political science, business, and the humanities, so he's comfortable coaching students through argumentative essays, research papers, and creative pieces alike. That range lets him adapt his feedback to whatever genre a student is tackling.
I am a student at the University of Arizona. I am majoring in Nutritional Sciences with minors in Biochemistry and Spanish. I hope to attend medical school upon graduating and continue to learn throughout the rest of my life! I have extensive experience taking Science, Math, and English courses through the undergraduate level. I have experience tutoring a freshman in high school in Pre-Algebra and Biology and have experience teaching students of all grade levels Nutrition. My goal is for students to deeply understand each concept we go over. I enjoy learning the "why?" when studying my courses, and I hope those who I tutor will also learn this. It allows us to have an enriched comprehension!
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I've been a tutor for both Math and Spanish programs in high school and enjoyed the strides I made with students. I am willing to tutor any subject I have a background in, but am strong in mathematics, the sciences, Spanish, history, writing, and ACT prep. I enjoy teaching mathematics most due to the joy I can see in children once they master a topic and can answer even pointed questions meant to stump them, and maybe even put their knowledge to real world use. As a tutor, I like to give a strong foundation to orient my student, and then gradually grant them more freedom and independence until they can feel themselves grasp the concept, pointing out pitfalls or common errors along the way; teachers who used these methods on me always left the most lasting impressions. Outside of my studies, I really enjoy listening to music, both old favorites and new interests, reading classics, and gaming/playing basketball with my friends.
I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I have been tutoring my fellow students throughout my entire academic career, and I would best describe my tutoring style as one that adapts to each students' needs. For example, I have always tried to frame questions in a different way so that the student can better understand the question. Some students need visual representations of numbers and systems to understand them, and others benefit more by understanding the concepts behind each formula. I prefer to tutor in math and physics, and especially with real world application problems. I hope to help students improve their standardized test scores and their understanding of the math and sciences so that they can achieve their academic goals!

Writing improves through targeted feedback on what matters most to your goals—whether that's strengthening your thesis, organizing arguments more clearly, or refining your voice. This personalized approach helps you develop skills that transfer across all your writing assignments.
Absolutely. Many students struggle with the blank page, and tutors can help you break through that barrier by working through brainstorming, outlining, and thesis development together. They'll guide you through the writing process—from planning your ideas to drafting and revising—so you understand how to approach assignments independently. This structured support builds confidence and makes starting essays feel less overwhelming.
Both matter, but they serve different purposes. Grammar is the foundation that ensures clarity, while style and voice are what make your writing engaging and authentic. Expert tutors help you balance both by first focusing on the ideas and structure of your essay, then refining grammar and word choice in revision. This approach prevents you from getting stuck on mechanics before you've fully developed your argument.
Yes. Citations and formatting are essential skills, and tutors can teach you the rules and help you apply them correctly to your papers. Whether you're learning MLA for English class or APA for research projects, tutors explain not just the format but why these conventions matter for academic integrity. They'll work through examples with you so you can handle citations confidently on future assignments.
Literary analysis requires both close reading skills and the ability to connect textual evidence to larger arguments—two areas where personalized tutoring makes a real difference. Tutors help you move beyond plot summary to develop meaningful interpretations, select strong evidence, and construct arguments that demonstrate deep understanding. They'll also help you understand how to balance your own analysis with proper citations of the text.
Your first session is about understanding your specific needs and goals. The tutor will review your current writing, discuss what you're working on in class, and identify areas where you want to improve—whether that's essay structure, clarity, confidence, or specific skills like argumentation. From there, you'll develop a personalized plan to address your challenges and build stronger writing habits.
