I feel that my experience as a tutor training coordinator and as an adjunct professor has given me a unique perspective on tutoring. I have experience writing and implementing training modules to help tutors prepare to provide students with a writing skill set up to the graduate level. I also currently teach Developmental Reading and Writing at a local college. As an educator, my favorite moment during the learning process is seeing a student experience the "ah-ha" moment - when they realize a skill they previously saw as impossible to master is in fact possible!

My name is Katheryn Nguyen and I am a full time college student at University of Southern Californiaa. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry in hopes of pursuing the medical field later on. The subject that I specialize in is math. During my free time, I enjoy listening to music, exercising, hiking, and spending time with my family and friends.

Math, sciences and language arts are important both for professional success and living a meaningful and fulfilling life. They are tools with which we can understand our true selves and the world around us. Therefore, helping students grasp the multitude of concepts in these disciplines is a way helping them manifest their potential, and that is a worthwhile endeavor.Prior to joining Varsity Tutors, I served as a tutor for classmates in high school. For the last for four years I have also mentored middle school students through weekly meetings aimed at improving their reading skills and powers of expression. I also help my middle school sister with math homework.I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University and am currently working toward my Masters of Business Administration at the University of Southern California.Outside of the classroom I am passionate about driving social chance through business and community development.

After graduating from Westivew High School, I attended UC Davis for a year, studying mechanical engineering. I am currently at a junior college with the intention of transferring to a different 4 year university. I have been tutoring math, science, and test preparation for 4 years for students of all ages. I am strongest in high level math, which is my favorite subject to tutor as well.My teaching style involves guiding the student through exercises instead of just showing them how to complete them. This way, they are more engaged in the tutoring session and are able to get more out of it.Outside of school and tutoring I enjoy playing soccer, going to the beach, and mountain biking.

I graduated from Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in World Language Education with a focus in Spanish, as well as a minor in Anthropology. I am a very passionate and experienced tutor. During my time at Purdue, I worked with one of my professors on a program called "Ayuda y Aprende". We went to the local middle school and high school once a week and tutored the English Language Learner students. I absolutely loved those four years of tutoring. I have also taught Spanish classes and been a Spanish tutor. I love helping students reach their goals, and I believe every student has potential - we just have to find the best way to get there together using the student's preferred learning style. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I am very involved with music, hiking, and swimming. I love being outdoors and swam competitively growing up. All through my life, I have also played instruments and sung in choirs. I love learning through and listening to music. While my favorite tutoring subjects are Spanish and ESL/ELL, I also enjoy tutoring reading, writing, and public speaking.

I taught school for 12 years. My favorite subjects to tutor are: all Elementary subjects, American/World History, English, Geography, Arithmetic and Test Prep for GED. I enjoy working with all ages. My goal is for your child to be successful. Looking forward to tutoring your child.

I believe that the most successful way of learning takes place when people work together. I obtained a degree in business administration at Cal State Long Beach, developing and applying math as fundamental as arithmetic in finance, as well as the complex derivatives used in economics. I am currently working on getting my teaching credential in Fundamental Math at Sacramento State. I do have a background in teaching, tutoring, subbing, and coaching. I am experienced in test prep, homework help, arithmetic, conversions, elementary and advanced English, but my favorite subjects to tutor are essay editing, writing or verbal skills, advanced mathematics or science. I like to bring enthusiasm to my lessons, as well as a variety of methods to help provide students with understanding. If you are having trouble with the explanations from the teachers, I can help! Oftentimes, we understand better if we hear things in a different way. Above all else, tutoring should never be a stressful experience. In my free time, I like to swim, hike, climb, write, cook, watch, and play games of all kinds.

I graduated from Columbia University with a Master's in International Affairs, specializing in international economy and East Asia. I used to tutor as an online oral English teacher when I was in college, helping students across China in all age groups overcoming the initial difficulties of mastering a foreign language. I enjoyed the interaction with people from different backgrounds. It was also a very fulfilling moment to see how my knowledge and skills have helped to empower others. I believe charting out the right study plan and a keen sense of spotting students' weaknesses are essential for a tutor. Being personable, responsible, and patient are my tutoring principles. I have traveled extensively in the past in both Asia and Europe, and am excited to explore more far-flung places in the world. I would love not only to bring practical skills to my students, but also to introduce myself as a friend.
