I am an intrepid traveler and have visited 26 countries, mostly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but I am most passionate about literature, writing, and social studies. When it comes to tutoring for Standardized Tests, I love working with students to perfect their essays and doing math drills. Though I have a plethora of working in the youth development field these past few years. I have 2 years experience as an 3rd grade ELA teacher, 3 years Middle School Site Coordinator with Minneapolis Public Schools. I am very familiar and comfortable with the developmental needs of young learners that have difficulty reading, spelling, comprehension, and or critically thinking.I believe everyone are continuous life long learners, and anyone can have fun and engage in learning something new.I look forward to meeting you.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities in May 2017 with a B.S. in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and a Minor in Public Health. I loved my undergraduate studies and look forward to sharing my love of science with students. I am currently applying to medical school to attend fall 2018, and I look forward to learning again myself!

I am currently a branch librarian just outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I received my Masters in Library and Information Science, with a youth services focus, from Simmons College in Boston, MA. I earned my Bachelor of Arts, a dual degree in Writing Intensive English and Journalism, with a Minor in History, from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Since completing my education I’ve worked in a wide variety of academic settings from an inner city middle school in Cambridge, MA to an elite private preschool-12th grade school in Baton Rouge, LA, to a charter school focused on Hmong culture and heritage in St. Paul. My role in the Charter School in St. Paul was that of reading tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps, because of this and my literature background, I am most comfortable with reading and writing instruction. I also worked on reading and writing while volunteering at 826 Boston. In addition to reading and writing instruction for students of all ages, I have experience tutoring and teaching all subjects studied in early elementary school. I gained this experience from tutoring students at 826 Boston and subbing consistently at the school in Louisiana. I believe that tutoring sessions should be educational and skills increased, but it should also be fun, and if a student’s confidence in a subject area increases, then I feel I am succeeding. Once confident in their ability to achieve their goals, I find students are more likely to put forth the effort and eventually achieve their goal. In addition to teaching and tutoring, I like running, yoga, reading, scrapbooking, and generally staying fit in mind and body.

I received my Bachelor's in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. I am a driven and impassioned learner who is insatiably curious and continually pursuing new experiences. I try to balance analytic focus with creative insight and big-picture-thinking. I am quick to adapt to whatever situation I may find myself in, always looking for elegant and creative solutions to problems.After studying Philosophy and Computer Science as an undergrad, I ventured abroad to teach English in South Korea. After four years, I have recently returned home to pursue an M.A. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) to expand my knowledge and take the next step in furthering my career.I love solving puzzles and problems of all sorts, mainly logic and word problems, and enjoy helping my students find joy in working through their own puzzles. I am a great listener and adept at clarifying difficult problems as well as finding novel perspectives and heuristics for solving problems.

I graduated this May from UC Berkeley with a BS in Chemistry, Highest Honors, and will be starting grad school in chemistry next year at Stanford. In college, I had the privilege of serving as a peer tutor for my fellow students, including those of underrepresented and nontraditional backgrounds. I am able to tutor a broad range of chemistry courses, from organic to physical to general chemistry, as well as math and physics classes. I can also help with test prep for the ACT, SAT, or GRE. I believe that asking questions is the basis of independent learning, so I strive to create an environment students feel that no question is too small to be asked. I love learning, and I hope to spark the joy of new understanding in my students!
