Hello! My name is Therrin J Wilson and I am originally from Memphis, TN. I graduated my high school at the top of my class while taking AP and dual enrollment courses. I attended the University of Tennessee from 2015-2019 and received my Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am currently a mentor to underprivileged pre-teens and I work with an Optometrist as a Doctor's Assistant. This is a great position for me because my plan is to become an Optometrist in the next 5 years! I have tutored in the subjects of Advanced Math, Science and Physics for a program called Varsity Tutors for about 3 years. I was also a tutor for an organization called AVID, which is a college preparatory course for high school students, for about a year and I also have experience tutoring freshmen in college while leading them into a healthy-eating lifestyle. So, I have tremendous experience tutoring varies students. All in all, I look forward to tutoring you or your child on the given subjects that I excel in and I am open to tutoring anyone as long as they are willing to learn. I am very patient so I will be sure to take my time with the material and ensure that I present it in a way that is tailored to the student's needs and personality to ensure their understanding.

I have always loved learning. As I determined my career path, I realized the joy I experience in working with people with disabilities. I also realized learning does not always create joy for others (in some instances it creates anxiety or anger).My passion is to specifically help people who feel frustrated and angry about learning for any reason. I want to be the catalyst for a new educational experience.I left a career in Advertising in 1999 and chose to educate myself on how to work with people with disabilities. In 2001, I received a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Along the way, I worked with adolescents in rehabilitation for drug abuse and traumatic brain injuries. I worked with adolescents in a residential facility and adults in residential reentry program after incarceration. Finally, I worked with college students with learning disabilities and children, engaged in a community mental health program, while living at home. In 2009, I chose to work in Special Education in the public school system. In 2012, I earned my second Masters Degree. I have worked in the public school system since 2009 as a Special Education teacher because I believe all students deserve to have a teacher dedicated to their academic needs despite their disabilities. I also work with students without disabilities that simply have achievement gaps. I teach my students how to succeed in school. We work on the work, but, more importantly, we work on how to engage in the learning environment to be successful. There are three basic rules I teach all my students. The first rule is: Arrive on time and be prepared to engage in learning. The second rule is: Maintain a positive attitude about learning no matter the challenges. The third rule is: Always submit your work so your teachers can attest to your efforts (even if you don't understand or your work is not accurate). Teachers will see how they can help and often feel even more committed to help. The bottom line is I am committed to teaching and learning.

I have been tutoring for several years in all subjects. I have worked with children as early as second grade and up to seniors in high school. I currently work in Shelby County Schools in an eighth grade math classroom. I am currently an MFA student at the University of Memphis, studying Creative Writing (poetry) and I'm really excited to continue honing my craft and working collaboratively with others.

Then, I received my Master of Art in Criminal Justice from the University of Memphis, a Master of Teaching in Special Education, and Graduate Certificates in Community College Teaching and Leadership, Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, IDT - Design and Development, and IDT- K-12 Educational Technology.I will graduate with my Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology this July. I taught Special Education for 11 years, and now I teach Criminal Justice courses to college students. I also develop online courses. In addition, I tutor and have tutored a variety of students over the years. My educational philosophy is that all children can learn; however, some children learn differently, and others learn at a different pace, but my job is to help them learn.When I'm not working, I like to read, travel with my son, who is autistic, and do arts and crafts.

It been a beautiful, peaceful, adventurous and good learning time. I completed my bachelors in Mathematics honors from Delhi University, India and then masters from IIT Bombay, India. Both of the institutes are top institutes of India and their course structure and referred book helped in building strong basics and developing the interest even deeper. After completing masters I joined Tata Consultancy services as senior data analyst but in starting few months only I realized I want to pursue PhD. So I joined University of Memphis in spring 2017.From school days I used to study in group with my friends, helping each other in different topics and subjects. Since then I used to enjoy explaining things and to teach but I never thought I would pursue this as career. With time Math become love and teaching and research became my hobby. Officially I started teaching in fall 2017, University of Memphis, since then I am teaching every fall, spring and summer. And I feel myself lucky to be among those 1% students who get chance of teaching in their second semester. I taught lots of courses like calculus I, college algebra and trigonometry. And this summer I will be teaching differential equations or linear algebra. Teaching taught me lot about how to engage students, how to motivate them to do better and how to handle other challenges that comes during this journey. Also, I am working as a tutor from 2017 spring till now in University of Memphis math learning center, where students come to ask for help for any problem or concepts related to mathematics. Tutoring also help us in better understanding about the points/places where students generally get stuck or face difficulties. It also helps to refresh and review different concepts and subjects.

I am a veteran college chemistry professor with a Ph.D. from Yale who has taught Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry I many times. I have also taught Introductory Chemistry to students who had never had chemistry before and also a General, Organic, and Biochemistry course for health professions. I look at chemistry as a set of skills to be learned, similar to learning a sport or a musical instrument. I can show you what to do, but to really learn you need to do things yourself.
