- I have nearly 40 years of teaching experience at the high school, university, and medical school levels.
About Me
My academic background includes the humanities (e.g., history and philosophy), the social science (e.g., sociology and geography), and the biomedical sciences (e.g., public health, biology, and anatomy and physiology). Over the years, I have won distinguished teaching awards. I have recently retired from full-time university teaching. I have either earned degrees and/or have done coursework from numerous universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Central America, and the Caribbean. My degrees are as follow: 1) Emory University (BA, History and Religion) 2) Washington University in St Louis (MA, History) 3) University of Florida (PhD, major field, History, and minor field History of Science and Medical Sociology) 4) The Ohio State University (MPH, Preventive Medicine) 5) The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London (MSc, Infectious Diseases) I have also done graduate work at the following: 1) Lousiana State University School of Medicine, (Tropical Medicine) 2) University of Alabama-Birmingham (Infectious Diseases) 3) University of Tennessee-Knoxville (Philosophy) 4) University of Galway, Republic of Ireland (History) I began my teaching and research at the Columbus State Community College, Columbus, OH. There I taught Western Civilization, US History, and Humanities. The other schools I have taught at are as follows: 1) Armstrong State University, where I taught Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Research Methods, and Environmental Health 2) South University, where I taught Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Principles of Health Behavior 3) Point University, where I taught Sociology, Geography, World History, US History, Biology II, and Anatomy and Physiology 4) The Ohio State University School of Medicine 5) The Duke University School of Medicine I have published more than a dozen peer-reviewed academic articles and three books. The most recent was Foundations of Infectious Disease: A Public Health Perspective.
Hobbies & Interests
My hobbies include collecting classic English automobiles. At the present time, I have a 1972 MGB Roadster and a 1973 MGB-GT. They are both in mint condition. I also enjoying reading and playing music. I am self-taught on keyboards, saxophone, flute, mandolin. banjo, drums, and string and electric bass. I have played guitar since I was in first grade.
