I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2011 with Bachelor's degrees in International Studies and Letters and a Spanish minor. I studied abroad in Chile from 2009 to 2010, where I first started giving private instructions in English. After graduating from the university, I worked as an English instructor at the University's Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), where for three years I taught academic reading and writing, communication skills, and standardized exam preparation. I enjoy tutoring, and have experience giving private instruction in English reading, writing, and speaking, and preparation for the following standardized exams: SAT, ACT, GRE, TOEFL and IELTS. It's been my pleasure to work with students from a variety of national, cultural and social backgrounds to help them achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. I'm an avid reader, musician, outdoors-enthusiast, chef, and movie-watcher.

I graduated from Caesar Rodney High School and became the 1st member of my immediate family to attend college when I decided to play football and major in Mathematics at the school that best suited my needs: Wesley College.Wesley's math program was small but filled with innovative professors and linked closely with an award winning chemical kinetic research department headed by renowned educator Dr. Malcolm D'Souza. The academic atmosphere encouraged constructive teamwork and helped me value virtuous collaboration and leadership skills. I studied applied and abstract mathematics while also learning pertinent information about the protocol for conducting research. The summer after my sophomore year I approached the chair of the mathematics department, Dr. Derald Wentzien, for permission to conduct an independent study about athletic participation in college. And in 2011, I begin researching Athletic Participation and itsTime Commitment as it Pertains to Academic Progress over the course of the fall semester while I lead the #3 ranked football team in Division III to our 3rd straight national semifinals appearance; the first time it had been done in its 141 year history. The following season I wrote The Art of Winning, a research study detailing the results of my findings, as well as the validity and implications of those results. I used my influence as a student-athlete, beat writer for the student newspaper The Whetstone, undergraduate researcher, and liaison for the Mathematics department to advocate for academic support and accommodations for underprivileged and underperforming students at Wesley College. I went on to accept a full scholarship to the University of Delaware's graduate education program and, in 2014, was hired by one of Delaware's most prestigious high schools, Cape Henlopen HS.I have spent the last 3 years executing rigorous versions of honors and college prep Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and Advanced Algebra. Now, I am ready to move on to the next chapter of my life.Feel free to contact me at erichgillespie93@gmail.com if you have any questions. All the best, Erich Gillespie Jr.

I have been lucky enough to have many great experience so far in my life. I was a Korean translator in the US Army for eight years. After serving in the Army, I went to Riverside Community College and then San Diego State, where I majored in English and minored in Asian Studies. I've since earned a teaching credential and Master's in Education from National University, and worked as a high school English and Spanish teacher for most of 2001-2013. Outside of “work,” I like to travel and to learn foreign languages. I've traveled a fair bit in Asia and Europe, and hope see South America soon. I live near San Diego State University now, and have lived in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and various places around the country. I also love old cars and reading, especially historical fiction.I can tutor English, Spanish, Social Studies, Math (up through Algebra I), and standardized test preparation. I especially like tutoring Spanish, literature, and history. I really enjoy tutoring because I get to help people and I love learning! I believe that it is easiest to learn when we can make personal connections with what we are studying, so I seek out ways to connect the learning to your experiences. I also believe that learning is more effective when it is fun and when it is done in a multi-sensory manner, so I utilize multimedia, tactile learning, and music as part of my tutoring. I'll work hard to ensure you are learning the knowledge and skills to be successful!

I am a graduate of San Diego State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature, as well as, my CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I have many years of experience with children of all ages. Starting in high school, I volunteered at various places including a daycare, a library, and multiple classrooms. I thoroughly enjoyed leading and assisting children in a variety of activities. I had the wonderful opportunity to teach 2nd grade at a private school in San Diego for three years. My most memorable experiences were the moments I spent teaching one-on-one or in small groups. I also spent afternoons after school to tutor my students in reading and math. I was more than happy to devote extra time to my students because I feel, as a teacher, it is my passion to reach all of my students by meeting their unique needs. I believe in using various techniques to tailor instruction to the needs of my students in order to encourage and motivate them to reach their goals. I tutor all elementary subjects, ISEE prep, Literature, and Essay Editing. My passion and specialty is teaching reading. My goal is to instill a love for reading in my students because books allow for discoveries, imaginative thoughts, and new ideas. Aside from teaching, I have a deep passion for enjoying life to the fullest. I love to go for walks, especially to coffee shops, strolling along the boardwalk at the beach, and of course, reading. I enjoy reading all types of books, but my favorites include biographies and realistic fiction.

10th Grade Reading Tutor • +36 Subjects

I've been teaching or tutoring in some form or another since 2004. I've tutored with nonprofit organizations such as Urban Youth Impact and Reading Partners, served as an instructor in the military overseas and as a contractor for a Fortune 500 company, and worked as a teacher in the California public school system. Through this variety of experiences, I've worked with many great educators and students, and found that everyone has a teaching and learning style that works best for them, and the key is finding a match. For myself, the most important attributes in my teaching ability are passion, patience, and perception. Bringing life to the material with creativity and insight kindles and a greater interest in the learner. Having the patience to follow the plan of execution helps the student feel at ease and puts them in a better mindset for success. Perception is crucial for understanding how a student can maximize their abilities, and which method of learning works best for them.
