Today was a long session! We began with reviewing Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 material. We then covered the rest of Chapter 14 and most of Chapter 15. We spent time on solving genetics problems and also went over a few questions that the student had from the multiple-choice problems that I had copied for her yesterday. I assigned her to complete the rest of Chapter 15, to read chapter 14, and to complete the multiple-choice problems that I had printed for her. Tomorrow, we will start with solving a few Chapter 15 problems then study Chapter 16 to Chapter 17. She is a bright and awesome student to work with, and I appreciate this wonderful opportunity!

We reviewed Python code from the student's class work. She is new to Python, and still trying to get used to the language. She seemed engaged and interested. We talked about how to experiment with parts of the Python language using the Python shell. I plan on following up with a book, and some links via email.

We figured out the best way to open the paper, a main argument, and the best way to present the information.

This was my first session with the student. We started off by talking about his high school career and his post-high school goals. He indicated that he has some difficulties with written English due to it being his second language. This was reflected in his struggles with run-on sentences and sentence structure. After working on these things over the course of the session, I did see a very encouraging improvement. Given that he sought out tutoring with ample time before he plans to take the ACT exam, I anticipate that he will be able to achieve his goals for the exam. The work we do to prepare him for the ACT (especially the English part) will also allow him to improve his overall academic skills. For the next session, I've asked him to complete the full diagnostic ACT exam.

Today, we covered common vocabulary words found on the exam. We discussed similarities and differences among the words. We created strategies to effectively navigate the vocabulary and context based sentences/questions. There was no detectable struggle with today's session. She is always eager to learn new concepts. Strategies were included such as eliminating answer selections and grouping answer selections. The extra practice is to review the vocabulary. She is making great progress.

We finished the practice problems and started in on the actual summer homework. The student does not need to do any work prior to next session. In general, the student should try to always solve problems by algebraically isolating the variable of interest before plugging in numbers. This will help her avoid math errors.
