One of the most important skills necessary to being a tutor is the ability to convey difficult topics in a tangible, easy-to-understand manner. That is a skill I possess in spades. I have the drive necessary in order to make sure that each student I work with gains a mastery over their subjects, and always try to use real-world examples in order to ensure that my students are able to understand even more complex concepts. I am both patient and eager to help each of my students, and will always go the extra mile.

I am a graduate of Walt Whitman High School and a current Senior at Harvard University. I am a pre-medical student who has been accepted to medical school, and I am a Slavic Languages and Literatures Major. I have tutored private clients in elementary, middle, and high school math for years; worked with disabled students on improving communication and academic skills through the "Best Buddies" program; and taught English language to Russian speakers during a U.S. State Department study abroad scholarship in Moldova. Though I tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Math, and Public Speaking. In my experience, preparing students for Standardized Testing is immensely satisfying (especially in the Writing and Reading sections) as so much of a student's success is based on their mastery of testing techniques and strategies. I also firmly believe that Public Speaking, as well as organizational skills, are critical to a student's level of confidence and advancement in any subject. I understand that each individual student has a unique approach to learning, and I try to pinpoint the most effective study and comprehension strategies for each of my students, so that he or she feels that his or her time is being used effectively, and so he or she can utilize new tools for success in future classes. In my spare time, I enjoy theater (whether that be participating as a performer or singing along to songs in the car), soccer, dance, and reading.

I have been involved for over six years with an educational institution that nurtures over 3000 students for competitive exams. I was responsible for classroom teaching along with the development of course materials, daily practice problems, and monthly exam papers. In the course of these years of teaching Chemistry and Maths, my endeavor has been to advance an innovative and interactive teaching approach by involving students for discussions on HHMI lectures, scientific publications, and interdisciplinary science, with an underlying motive to cultivate their inclination towards natural sciences.I have had years of teaching experience for one of the most competitive exams in India and many of my students have succeeded in those examinations.I have also been part of few start-up involving interactive education system incorporating technology for ease of learning. Most of my classes were in groups of students varying from 20-200 depending on the course. But I have always been keen on making sure every single student grasp the fundamentals really good.Further inquisitive of knowledge thrived me to perform research over 4 years at prestigious universities like Harvard Medical School and MIT with multiple publication and conferences. These research experience provided me with the concerted focus towards the subject and in the process making me a better teacher with experimental and theoretical skills.I plan to broaden the interest of students towards the subject with latest publication and research as the backbone of my classes. Along with helping them to envision their goal with renewed focus.

Standardized tests are a game--a game you can win. Winning the game is about mastering both test-taking strategies and content skills.Applying for college in general is a game. You must build a profile similarly to how you build your Facebook profile. Your college application "profile" is your opportunity to show colleges how awesome you are with the aim of compelling them to send you a friend request. It would be my pleasure to work with you on test prep; including SAT, SAT II Latin, SAT II German, AP English, ACT, ISEE, and HSPT. I would also enjoy working with you on persuasive essays and research papers, Latin I-III, English I-AP, algebra I, or calculus AB.

Fourteen years of teaching in various countries has taught me that learning is a reciprocal process with teachers and students both contributing necessary and invaluable input. I left a financial career to pursue one in education because I sought a more communicative, interactive, and rewarding way to positively impact society. Using my own student experience as a guide, a primary goal of mine is to share my passion for learning and knowledge to help others reach their potential. My career change from finance to education, language, and literature is precisely what distinguishes my background and broadens my knowledge base with which to tutor. My undergraduate major in Accounting provided a technical base largely focused on logic, problem-solving, and factual concepts. Complementing this quantitative foundation with a graduate liberal arts degree in English also relied on logic, but qualitatively enhanced my ability to synthesize and express information with more insight and clarity. Therefore, my two academic areas converge into a holistic view of education which I consider integral to my language teaching ability. Language supports other subjects in any number of ways: visually by words or image, aurally, or kinesthetically in our efforts to comprehend or communicate information. In teaching English language acquisition, reading, writing, and test preparation, I saw that these subjects overlap and correlate rather than exist as isolated categories possessing separate skill-sets. My teaching experience in Asia, North and South America has been enhanced by an exposure to different perspectives on teaching, learning, and socio-cultural dynamics. Encountering learning styles and customs from China, Mexico, the Middle East, and the U.S. encouraged both my communication and teaching styles to become flexible, student-centered, and responsive.Traveling widely during my time abroad also deepened my belief that active, personalized, hands-on examples or experiential learning provide the most beneficial aspects of education. Most subjects overlap within the knowledge acquisition process so a critical thinking approach to any subject will enhance overall learning capacity. I believe that my broad and varied academic, professional, and personal history enables the creative, innovative, and multifaceted approach to learning that our contemporary environment demands for students to succeed in their preparation for the future.

During my time at MIT, I tutored for organic chemistry and biochemistry because I loved helping my students see the beauty in these subjects. I also taught chemistry and biology in Halifax, North Carolina and Ancona, Italy. After graduation I travelled to Ghana to help teach a Startup Incubator program. I'm now a medical student in North Carolina!

While I have more than six years of experience tutoring in a multitude of subjects, I can offer an eager student more than a jump in grades or test scores. I pride myself in being able to bring about not just these immediate goals, but in bringing the student along in a comprehensive way; in writing, reasoning, and learning ability. What I provide is professional and academic mentoring, the kind that allows a student to be more than a test score. Many students, brilliant and motivated though they are, can make poor decisions about the college admissions process, about resume building, what they do in their extracurricular time, in interviews, etc. These problems cannot be avoided by just being intelligent. Even doing research in these areas can be daunting, as the internet, full of useful information as it is, provides both wise and foolish advice to young students. Navigating this resource requires experience and professional acumen, and it is not an inborn trait.I have worked with the entire spectrum of students; those looking to get into an IVY league school, and those just hoping to make it through high school. I can most easily and effectively tutor in the sciences, test preparation, and the writing process. I am the biggest asset to those students who have aspirations in the medical, scientific, or research fields, or who are hoping to be more competitive in the prep-school or college application process.
