How can a Pre-Calculus tutor help you?

Before you can move onto one of the most difficult subjects in mathematics, you have to get through pass pre-calculus. This course introduces you to many of the concepts you'll be addressing in regular calculus, such as limits, curves, tangent lines, and sequences. Many of the concepts you'll be learning require an understanding of geometry and algebra vocabulary. Students who have struggled in these courses in the past may need the assistance of a tutor to work through their pre-calculus work with them. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can work with you to find a San Francisco, California, pre-calculus tutor.

Calculus is the mathematical study of change. When you apply calculus to the real world, you'll be looking at how quickly or how much something has changed over a short period of time. To do this, graphs and slopes are used. While these concepts are introduced in geometry, in pre-calculus they are utilized in a new way. If you don't have the basic understanding of these concepts from your earlier courses, then it can be difficult for you to keep up with your pre-calculus work. With a personal tutor, you can cover any material you've forgotten from previous courses and learn to apply the concepts to your current class work. Pre-calculus tutoring in San Francisco gives you the opportunity to really assess what you know and don't know in math. The tutor can provide you with assessment tests and materials that can pinpoint the areas of the subject that may cause you issues on your current and future exams. Once this has been completed, your tutor can build a curriculum designed to help you keep up in your class and strengthen your math basics.

Session Summaries by Pre-Calculus Tutors

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Melvin in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
During this session we went over questions on hyperbolas. The student seemed to understand all concepts of the section. I recommend she make a sheet with important information with respect to parabolas, hyperbolas, ellipses, and circles that way it's easier to study for her final exam. She took her trig exam and she only got one question wrong! Overall this session went really well.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Matthew in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
During this session, the student and I reviewed chapters 18 and 19 of her book. This involved manipulation of the cosine and sine functions and included detailed discussions about amplitude, phase, frequency, time shifting, and periodicity. We are trying to learn the easiest way to manipulate trigonometric functions. She will continue reviewing this material, and we will soon begin review exams.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Kyle in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
The student and I worked on the review for a quiz he was taking. He is learning trig identities and how to prove identities, solve triangles, and simplify trig expressions. He did really well with answering the questions on his own. He only needed a little guidance from me.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Justin in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
Began focus on word problems and solving inequalities. Worked on methods to pull out relevant information from word problems and format the information in a way that they can be set up and solved like the problems that we have worked on before. Worked on gathering clues from word problems to apply logic and real world information to make solving word problems more simple. With inequalities, worked on solving basic problems as well as quadratic and absolute value problems. Need to continue to work on quadratic problems and finding all the zeroes to a given inequality.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Omar in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
During my first session with the student we went over trigonometric functions. We especially focused on how to evaluate them using the unit circle, how to derive the results by using right triangles, and how to plot them. After today's session, she grasped many new concepts and felt more confident solving the problems on her own. I will be meeting twice a week with her and will occasionally be helping her out with physics and chemistry.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Brittani in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
The student and I spent the session going through his homework. He is doing very well at understanding the concepts and I was impressed during one problem, because neither one of us knew how they had gotten a number in the example. Instead of giving up and wanting to move on, he started doing other calculations to try to figure out how the book got to the answer. After looking at the proof in the back of the book, I was able to figure it out, but I was happy to see him concerned with understanding the material. We find out his test grade this week and I am hoping he did well.
