Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Michael in Memphis, TN
The first part of this semester for the student will be covering trigonometry. Today we focused on applying trig functions and learning the unit circle. He remembered a lot from his past trig training that will help a lot with this section. Learning the unit circle takes time, as there is a lot to remember, but it is a valuable tool. Finally, we covered some arc length and circular motion problems. We will continue to work on trig as it gets more advanced.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Chris in Memphis, TN
Today, we spent most of our time discussing the plots of trigonometric functions. She was fairly comfortable with the plots of sine and cosine, so we focused on tangent, cotangent, cosecant, and secant. I connected the plots to the techniques we had covered for graph sketching last year and maintained a focus on the fundamental process used for sketching any graph. We also spent some time looking at trigonometric identities. I emphasized a minimal approach to memorizing specific trig identities. Instead, I suggested that she memorize a handful of core identities from which she could derive other identities. At this point we only looked at the Pythagorean identity, but we will add more as they become relevant to her class. We then spent the remainder of our time doing some practice problems from her book. She had a quiz on the unit circle last week, and she said she finished it very quickly and felt confident about it, but she has not gotten a score back yet.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Kori in Memphis, TN
Reviewed various types of combinations and permutations problems in preparations for this week's test. Paid extra attention to multiple combinations problems because those are the ones the student was most unsure of. Also practiced binomial distribution using Pascal's triangle and using the resulting coefficients to determine the probabilities of all outcomes of a situation. She seemed to have a good understanding of the fundamentals and was quick to pick up the more complex material after working through the corresponding examples.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Tong in Memphis, TN
Yesterday, we worked mostly on general and particular solutions to trigonometric functions. We reviewed the concepts behind what general-and-particular-solution questions were asking for and how they relate to previous material. The concepts were reinforced graphically. I have sent a note to her to let her know we were on the right track and hope to revisit next time. So far, overall response from her has been very positive. She is picking up the concepts with relative ease and is able to apply them to difficult problems.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Edward in Memphis, TN
The student and I finished midterm review with questions on compositions, inverses, logs, interest, half life, and geometry. We did a set of 24 log problems to perfect expansion, condensation, solving, changing or base, and the definition of logs. We also reviewed interest formulas. He is doing excellent.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by John in Memphis, TN
The student had a worksheet on graphing the basic trig functions and evaluating the functions at special angles. He also had an assignment from the book dealing with reference angles. He did well on both. We then previewed the upcoming lessons on the reciprocal trig functions and inverses. He didn't do the best on a recent quiz, but he said he understood the material and simply ran out of time. I will try to work on more time management skills with him in the future.
