How can a Accounting tutor help you?

While some people see accounting as dull, you know the truth as an accounting student. Keeping track of corporate or personal finances may be complex and interesting. In addition, accounting is a field with a high demand for skilled employees and may be very lucrative. No matter how interested you are, though, some parts of your classes may trip you up. Don't get stuck in your progress! Varsity Tutors may help you make your accounting study sessions more productive by finding you a tutor in Portland, OR.

Starting from the very beginning with the basic equation of "assets = liabilities + equity," the study of accounting may introduce you to a variety of new and possibly unfamiliar financial concepts. Varsity Tutors may help you find a skilled, independent tutor near Portland who may guide you on the path toward accounting understanding. An accounting course may teach you standard accounting principles like cost, revenue recognition, going concerns, relevance, reliability, consistency, timeliness, completeness, prudence, materiality, neutrality, accruals, and full disclosure. From there, you may build to more complex concepts such as the business entity concept, money measurement concept, single economic entity concept, matching concept, duality concept, realization concept, faithful representation, and substance over form. Your tutor may try to help you feel out your strengths and weaknesses as you pick up these ideas. From there, he or she may adapt your sessions in order to focus on areas where you need extra help beyond what's provided in classroom sessions. Your strong points may also be reinforced and expanded upon, making you more attractive to potential employers. An experienced tutor may gauge your learning style and frame lessons in a way best suited to the way you absorb information.

We went over questions for Chapter 6 from the exam prep book. We worked with the website and it worked much better than the first time. I was able to see his screen and we were able to talk at the same time about a problem. He came up with around 70-75% on the questions which is great for the review. He will study a little bit more this week in preparation for our next session. I believe the student is doing a great job and if he keeps up this pace, should be well prepared for the exam.

The student and I covered liabilities. The student didn't have a chance to read the chapter before our session, so I spent the majority of the time walking through liabilities and accruals (i.e. warranties) rather than going through specific examples. I think the student will get this material, he just needs to sit down and read it at greater length.

Today we covered Adjusting Entries (Accruals, Deferrals, Depreciation) and Bank Reconciliations specifically (the "stumper" problems) for the upcoming midterm. The student is much more confident and familiar with the concepts - the major issues lie in errors due to math mistakes. For the midterm, I would recommend just working through practice problems beforehand and taking time on the test to minimize errors. The student has a good conceptual understanding, so just staying confident and taking the problems one step at a time is the best approach.

During this session, the student and I first covered questions that she had from class regarding present value and future value of cash flows. Next, we covered concepts and practice problems for Chapter 10 -- Calculating and recording transactions involving bonds and long term debt. I believe that she is understanding the material pretty well -- completing additional practice problems as a study tool will help her to be successful in this course.

We further reviewed core accounting ratios for the student's test on Monday. We went down the list and I asked her to give the proper formula and what the ratio meant. She is progressing well and should be well-prepared for her test on Monday. We also went over revenue management and budgeting.
