I am a graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with an emphasis on Spanish. My experiences in education include tutoring students in a varied range of subjects and teaching English in China. I tutor Spanish and Math, with an immense passion for both! My passion for tutoring comes from the ability to aid a student perform as well as they want to, in the end realizing their full potential and going beyond what they expect of themselves. Since high school, I've been exposed to different aspects of education from mentoring peer immigrants to studying education policy. Studying cognitive science in college has solidified my interest in and taught me various effective teaching methods. Ive learned that there are different types of intelligence as well as different types of learning. In order to be an effective educator, it is important to establish a relationship with the pupil to utilize the pupils learning style.Moments from being a summer school teacher for 4th-6th graders and a resident assistant for 2 years, fuel my passion for teaching. The joy on the students faces when they achieve a goal or the gratefulness they express for my help stay with me to this day. I took first place in the congressional art competition for the state of Arizona when I was in high school which awarded me with a scholarship to study at a top art university and my art was exhibited in the capital building in Washington D.C.. I am very passionate about teaching drawing and illustration. The styles that I am the most experienced with are cartoon, anime, and still life. As an artist, it's important to keep learning everyday. The development of your skills comes with time and experience. I completed my freshman and sophomore years at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in the spring of 2015, where I double majored in English and Finance. I worked two years for Rutgers Upward Bound TRIO program, in which I helped students ranging from freshmen to seniors in high school learn and practice the fundamentals of writing, reading comprehension, essay writing, SAT Math, SAT Writing, and SAT Reading.In the summer of 2015, I moved to the Bay Area, where I am currently taking fall semester courses at Berkeley City College. Although It was initially hard for me to swallow the stark reality of uprooting the school I loved and thrived in, as well as the friends and family that had nurtured my growth in the beautiful Garden State, the prospect of attending a more prestigious Californian university to complete my undergraduate and (hopefully) law school studies was too great of an opportunity not to take a leap of faith for. Because I, too, am a student chasing his dreams, nothing gives me more satisfaction and hope in helping others to not only become more comfortable with their studies, but also become passionate in their strides toward their academic and personal goals.

I began my graduate studies in 2011 where I also taught undergraduate students for a year in courses pertaining to environmental sustainability and climate change. As part of my graduate program I went from 2012-2014 to Peace Corps in Mexico helping with water projects. In June 2015 I completed my M.S. in Environmental Studies from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Since 2015, I work at the Environmental Protection Agency and continue to volunteer with a nonprofit, Mariposas, that helps young women in Mexico. Outside of my work, I enjoy water sports, running, and music. I love science and Spanish and hope to share my enthusiasm with students!

I love doing research with animals, which is why I interned in several projects during my stay at UCD. Besides my love for nature, I also enjoy math. It is the main subject I tutor in, and I find it very rewarding helping students understand different mathematical concepts. I have had previous experience in this subject with students from all grade levels. I also tutor in conversational Spanish, since I am fluent in Spanish. During my free time I enjoy knitting, reading, bird watching, and learning to play the clarinet (it's never too late).

With my tutoring style, I help the student visualize problems by drawing them out whenever possible and explaining every little step of the way in arriving to the solution. We will work through several problems together until they recognize a pattern that they can comfortably revert back to as reference. I feel that every student needs a tutor to be successful because it's a subject that prompts many questions that are best answered at the personal level, rather than in the classroom.Outside of school, I play college tennis and compete at the men's open level all over southern California.
