This course provides opportunities to exploremedia and techniques used to create a varietyof two-dimensional (2D) artworks throughdrawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and/ordesign. Students practice, sketch, andmanipulate the basic elements of art andprinciples of design to improve mark-makingand develop purposeful compositions createdfrom observation, research, or imagination.Through critique processes, students learn toreflect, evaluate and respond to artwork.

This course focuses on further development,refinement, and progression of the Art 1content.

This course is designed for students withsignificant experience in art. Studentsdemonstrate proficiency in the development of2D content in drawing, painting, printmaking,collage, and/or design to create independent orcollaborative artwork suitable for inclusion in aportfolio. Students show evidence of quality incraftsmanship, composition/presentation, andthe development of a personal style/voice.Through focused investigation and critiqueprocesses of techniques and historical/culturalmodels, students critically reflect, evaluate andrespond to artwork.

This course is for students with extensiveexperience in art and is a bridge betweenregular art and college level courses. Studentswork in a self-directed, independentenvironment to develop a portfolio showing abody of their own work with emphasis ondrawing concepts. Artwork shows evidence ofpersonal vision, growth over time, mastery ofskills/techniques, and exploration of a particularconcentration, articulated and supported bywritten artist's statements and critique analysis.High levels of critical thinking, research,conceptual thinking, and creative risk-taking arepart of this rigorous course.

This course parallels the basic college levelfoundational course in drawing. This rigorouscourse is a guided, independent study programdesigned for the serious art student. Itaddresses broad interpretations of drawingissues and media (mark-making through avariety of means which may include painting,printmaking, mixed media, etc.). Integrity,ethics, and plagiarism are addressed. Studentssubmit a complete portfolio demonstratingquality, concentration and breadth to CollegeBoardfor assessmentscoring andconsideration for college credit (not based on awritten exam).

In this course students explore how theelements of art and principles of designcombine to create art forms, utilitarian products,and three dimensional (3D) structures in areassuch as green or industrial design, sculpture,ceramics and/or building arts. Media manyinclude, but are not limited to clay, wood,plaster, found objects, metal/wire, and papermache'. Students focus on safety proceduresfor process, media, and techniques, andparticipate in critiques to evaluate, explain, andmeasure artistic growth in created individual orgroup works.

In this course students explore spatialrelationships through the use of nonobjective,abstract, or representational forms, products, orstructures. Instruction may include, but is notlimited to, content in green or industrial design,sculpture, ceramics, or building arts. Processesand techniques for substitution include wheel-thrown clay, glaze formulation and application,or extruded, cast, draped, molded, laminated,or soft forms. Media may include, but are notlimited to, clay, wood, metal, plaster, papermaché, and plastic with consideration of theworkability, durability, cost, and toxicity of themedia used. 3-D artists experiment with andmanipulate space-producing devices, includingoverlapping, transparency, interpenetration,vertical and horizontal axis, inclined planes,disproportionate scale, fractional or abstractedrepresentation, and spatial properties of thestructural art elements. Craftsmanship andquality are reflected in the surface andstructural qualities of the completed art forms.Students in the 3-D art studio focus on use ofsafety procedures for process, media, andtechniques. Student artists use an art criticismprocess to evaluate, explain, and measureartistic growth in personal or group works.

Students communicate a sense of 4-D, motion,and/or time, based on creative use of spatialrelationships and innovative treatment of spaceand its components. Instruction may include,but is not limited to, content in green orindustrial design, sculpture, ceramics, orbuilding arts. Students address 4-D, the inter-relatedness of art and context, and may alsoinclude installation or collaborative works,virtual realities, light as a medium (i.e., natural,artificial, or reflective), or flexible, entered, oractivated space. This course is designed for students with littleor no theatre experience, and promotesenjoyment and appreciation for all aspects oftheatre. Classwork focuses on the explorationof theatre literature, performance, historical andcultural connections, and technicalrequirements. Improvisation, creativedramatics, and beginning scene work are usedto introduce students to acting and characterdevelopment. Incorporation of other art forms intheatre also helps students gain appreciationfor other art forms, such as music, dance, andvisual art.

This course is designed for students with a yearof experience or more. Classwork builds onskills learned in level 1, and focuses oncharacterization and playwriting/playwrights'contributions to theatre. Improvisation, creativedramatics, and exploration of the technicalaspects of scene work help students challengeand strengthen their acting skills.
