Computer Science Foundations standards is a one-year introductory survey course that emphasizes the principles underlying computer science, including computing systems, networks and the internet, cybersecurity, data analysis, algorithms and programming, and impacts of computing. Students develop ideas and practices of computational thinking and problem solving to consider how computing impacts the world. Students use programmable computing tools to facilitate design, analysis, and implementation of computer programs. This course provides a transition from blockbased programming to a text-based programming language and familiarizes the student with developing and executing computer programs.

Advanced Programming HN builds on a foundation of programming skills and focuses on mastering advanced programming techniques, object-oriented programming (OOP), algorithm optimization, data structures, and software development methodologies.

The AP Computer Science Principles course is equivalent to a first-semester introductory college computing course. The course explores the big ideas of computing: creativity, abstraction, data and information, algorithms, programming, the Internet, and global impact. These big ideas are fundamental to computing and connect students to a curriculum that includes the art of programming but is not programmingcentric. Students in this course design and produce solutions, models, and artifacts, and they evaluate and analyze their own computational work as well as the computational work others have produced. There is an emphasis on innovation through collaboration and communication as a tool to analyze, justify and describe computational work. Students who complete this course can take the associated Advanced Placement examination and may earn college credit if a qualifying score is achieved.

Cyber: Oracle 1 students learn database design and Structured Query Language (SQL) programming through hands-on computer training in data modeling and database application software. Students gain the skills and knowledge needed to use features of database software and programming to manage and control access to data. Students taking this course will be preparing to take Oracle's Introduction to SQL programming exam. Preparation for careers is a major component of this class.

Cyber: Oracle 1 DE provides the opportunity for students to earn credit for ITD 132 through Northern Virginia Community College. Cyber: Oracle 2 teaches Web-based technologies used throughout industry, including interactive Web sites, accounting programs, research tools, search engines, elearning environments, email managers, and numerous other applications, depend upon relational databases. PL/SQL, an extension of the SQL programming language, provides additional database functionality through variables, constants, conditional statements, and iterative controls. Students enhance their relational database design and management skills by learning to write PL/SQL code that includes anonymous blocks, sub programs, built-in functions, control structures, procedures, and triggers, all within a browserbased programming environment. In addition, fully functional Web-based applications are created using HTML DB. Preparation for careers is a major component of this class.

Cyber: Cisco 1 DE provides the opportunity for students to earn credit for ITN 154 through Northern Virginia Community College. Cyber: Cisco 1 DE teaches the first half of two interrelated Cisco networking courses. Students learn concepts & skills needed to gain an understanding of basic computer networking fundamentals. These include basic network switch configuration, understanding network models, important elements of each of the primary layers of networking -- including IP and MAC addressing and TCP functions. This may inform entry-level home network installer jobs as well as skills needed to become network technicians and cable installers. or help-desk technicians. It introduces networking and the Internet, including some hands-on familiarity with aspects of home and small business network environments.

Building on concepts learned in Cyber: Cisco 1, this course familiarizes students with the equipment applications and protocols installed in enterprise networks, with a focus on switched networks, wireless networking, router configuration and security. It teaches configuration of Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Protocol as a key routing protocol. Hands-on exercises, including configuration, installation, and troubleshooting, reinforce student learning.

Cyber: Network Administration 2 continues to teach aspects of network administration, focusing on the management and support of network users and systems. The topics covered include understanding the responsibilities of computer professionals, training end users, evaluating new technology, developing system policies, troubleshooting workstations, managing network services and protocols. Students learn communication protocols, troubleshooting techniques for systems and client-server networks, website management, and other advanced networking topics. Techniques that are used to install operating systems, setup and manage accounts, load software, and create and implement security plans are taught. This course may provide instruction about software-based network operating systems, such as Windows Server or Linux. Instruction will emphasize preparation for industry certification. Upon successful completion of Cyber: Network Administration II, students may elect to obtain industryrecognized professional certification.

The IB Business Management SL course aims to develop students as confident, creative and compassionate business leaders, entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs and as change agents who understand ethical and sustainable business practices. Students will explore four interdisciplinary concepts: creativity, change, ethics and sustainability. Business management focuses on business functions, management processes and decision-making in contemporary contexts of strategic uncertainty. Students examine how business decisions are influenced by factors that are internal and external to an organization and how these decisions impact upon a range of internal and external stakeholders. Emphasis is placed on strategic decision-making and the operational business functions of human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing, and operations management. Students will produce a research project about a real business issue or problem facing an organization using a conceptual lens. This course fulfills the Economics and Personal Finance graduation requirement and the virtual course graduation requirement.

Digital Applications elective course is designed to provide support to English Learners new to US schools in the development of correct keyboarding techniques and to gain a basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, and telecommunications applications. Students demonstrate an understanding of computer concepts through application of knowledge. Students learn to use software packages and local and worldwide network communications systems. Grade 8 Computer/Technology Standards of Learning are incorporated and reinforced in this course. Students who successfully complete the course will earn an elective credit. Students successfully completing this course and Information Systems will satisfy the sequential elective requirement for the Standard Diploma.

Information Systems uses project-based learning, students apply problem-solving skills to real-life situations through word processing, spreadsheets, databases and multimedia presentations. Students work individually and in groups utilizing integrated software activities within Microsoft Office 365 to explore computer concepts, operating systems, networks, telecommunications, and emerging technologies. Keyboarding instruction will be a component of this course based on student need. Upon successful completion of Information Systems, students may elect to obtain industry-recognized professional certification by taking the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exams. Internship opportunities are available for this course. Students combine classroom instruction and supervised on-the-job training in an approved position with continuing supervision throughout the school year. FBLA, the co-curricular student organization, offers opportunities in leadership, community, and competitive events.
