Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our first session. It went quite well. The student seems to know what he needs help with and what he needs to improve on. He isn't afraid to ask questions and has a willingness to learn the subject material."
"The student is now learning about circles in her geometry class. We reviewed a previous homework assignment that she had already completed. She now has a good understanding of all of the conjectures needed for her quiz later this week."
"The student and I worked on the homework packet covering Chapter 7, geometric mean and some trigonometric relationships. We reviewed that the geometric mean is the square root of the product of two numbers. We also reviewed the 'boomerang' and the 'heart beat' theorems (geometric means within right triangles divided by an altitude). Lastly, we reviewed the ratios of the legs to the hypotenuse."
"Reviewed always/sometimes/never questions, degree/minute/second questions, and compliment of a supplement questions. Also reviewed the student's packet and did extra checking on problems that involved system of equations along with memorizing formulas for slope, midpoint, and distance in order to find medians and altitudes."
"The student has a test on Friday so he spent the session working through a very long review. He is good at math but it takes him awhile to get through a problem and I think it is because he second guesses himself too much. We will probable be meeting tomorrow to work more on his review so that he can ace that test."
"We discussed his curriculum and determined that what he was actually doing was Algebra 2 (or Algebra 3&4) material. We worked on functions and manipulation of those functions. We looked at trigonometric functions, parabolic functions and equations for circles. This session went very well!"
"The student and I went through several review problems together covering topics he wanted to study for his upcoming exam. We did several problems regarding algebraic equations and word problems, and several geometry problems involving parabolas and circles. Going through the problems, it seemed at times that the student was lost at what step came next. However, with a few hints, he was able to come to a correct solution to these problems. He needs to practice geometry problems so that he can more easily "see" the correct methods to solving these problems."
"The student had a test this Tuesday that is in triangle similarity. Specifically we worked on right triangles, altitude similarity formulas and did a lot of practice problems dealing with that. Afterwards, we reviewed similar triangle proofs."
"In this session, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming test on surface area. We reviewed how to find the surface area of cones, spheres, irregular shapes and oblique shapes. We went over problems from the book and I also made up some problems for him to solve and keep for review purposes."
"We went over the student's last two tests. He re-did the problems he had gotten wrong so he could get points added to the test. We first did work with similar triangles, altitudes, and proofs regarding them. We then did work on finding sides and angles when given specific information"
"The student has been hard at work preparing for his test on similar polygons. We discussed his review packet. We also worked through a significant number of additional problems, highlighting areas where he to go through the steps to help him double-check his work."
"The student is doing impressively well in geometry! He is confident that he got a very high score on his most recent test. We began previewing for his next chapter, which covers basic concepts that are not hard at all to understand. We will meet two Thursdays from now to begin reviewing for his final exam."
