Elementary Math Tutoring review by Brookelynn in Reading
For math, the student worked on a review sheet which covered rounding to tens and hundreds, as well as associative properties of multiplication/ addition. For reading, we read an article about digestion in different species and answered questions. This was a great session; it was nice to see that she remembered the math we went over weeks ago.

We worked more on dividing fractions for the student's upcoming test. We also went over how to add three fractions, all with different denominators. I had him repeat to me several times the different steps for adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and reducing fractions. He did a better job than last week but was still forgetting when to reduce and when to leave the answer alone. We'll work on that in our next session. He is making good progress.

The student worked on his math homework, which he seemed to have little trouble with. We read more of The Tale of Despereaux together. He is enjoying the book. We discussed time management; I think he will have little trouble as long as he reads as much before our next meeting as he said he intends to.

Most of my time was spent with Student 1. Student 2 had vocab stem words (suffixes and prefixes) to memorize, which we went over. Then, she continued applying that work with more vocabulary from the practice SSAT tests we are using to enlarge her vocabulary. Student 1 and I spent some time planning out her 5 paragraph report on food chains; she developed a format and composed the first chapter. We also went over some elementary level mixed math problems from a practice SSAT set so she can keep her math skills honed. This was a productive exercise.

During our session, we worked on school assignments in math. The student started a new section that starts to prepare her for multiplication. We then covered the concept of arranging objects in rows and columns in different combinations. In addition, we finished up some worksheets on identifying coins. Lastly, we read one of her stories from her school book and answered some comprehension questions. I continue to push her to produce more meaningful sentences consistently.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Nicole in Reading
The student had homework covering multiplication of decimals with zeros today. He worked on some of the problems prior to us starting, and he did well. He needs to remember to show his work and put a dollar sign in the answer if there is one in the problem. There was a guess and check problem on the spiral review that initially tricked him. We worked through it together, and he was able to answer the problem. He has a test next Tuesday, so we started working on decimal multiplication with decimals in both factors. We are meeting again on Monday.
