We worked on journal entries, bonds payable, coupon rates (and how they differ from the yielding rate, or market rate). We also flipped through the book and saw which parts he felt very strong on and some of the others where he thinks there could be some improvement. He has a very good eye for accounting and I think he showed he's on a great track. He will continue to do a lot of questions until our next meeting on Monday.

Finance Tutoring review by Shelby in Pittsburgh, PA
Today we covered adjusting entries (accruals, deferrals, depreciation) and bank reconciliations specifically (the "stumper" problems) for the upcoming midterm. He is much more confident and familiar with the concepts. For the midterm, I would recommend just working through practice problems beforehand and taking time on the test to minimize errors. He has a good conceptual understanding, so just staying confident and taking the problems one step at a time is the best approach.

Finance Tutoring review by Ashley in Pittsburgh, PA
During our session, the student and I covered the PowerPoint slides for Chapter 12 in her textbook. We discussed debt and equity investments and the various subcategories of each -- trading, AFS, HTM, and Equity Method. We discussed each type of security from a conceptual standpoint, noting similarities and differences between the two. We then worked a few practice problems to give her practice at recording transactions for these type of investments. She did very well during the session.
