Hector is enrolled in an M.S. program in Chemical Biology at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. He has prior degrees in Biological Sciences and Liberal Studies with minors in Chemistry and Psychology to supplement his well-rounded studies at Florida International University located in his hometown of Miami, FL. He has conducted supplementary research in the fields of Neuroscience and Toxicology during his undergraduate years. One day he hopes to be either a physician and/or scientist to further advance the cumulative knowledge on the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders as part of an interdisciplinary team of like-minded individuals.

I graduated in the top ten percent of my high school class and went on to Williams College (MA) to complete my Bachelor's degree in Biology. Currently, I am in the process of applying to medical school. In the meantime, I work for Miami Dade College. I like to tutor because I like teaching and explaining information to others.I believe a good teaching methodology is based on finding a good way to relate the new material to previous knowledge. It is also important to find analogies that could be applicable to real life situations.I have extensive knowledge in the science field including Biology, Physics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Genetics. I have experience tutoring in each of these. I have also worked with children in grades K-12 on homework and classroom assignments.I particularly like to teach Math because it is my favorite subject. I like to play chess, soccer and talk about fitness. I believe I can have a positive impact on the lives of my students and contribute to their education.

I received my M.S. in Crisis and Management Psychology from Walden University shortly after receiving my B.A. in Psychology from Capital University. Also at Walden, I spent quite a bit of time studying Counseling Psychology which I enjoyed very much. In the next few years I hope to return to school and finish the one class and the internship I need to complete my counseling degree.I tutor Spanish from conversational Spanish up through Spanish 3. I have approximately 20 years experience with the language including tutoring adolescents and teaching adults who have wanted to learn the language for their own benefit. I currently live in Miami, Florida and speak Spanish daily both inside and outside of my home with native speakers. I understand the feeling of learning a second language and the challenges that come along with it. I am here to help you through those challenges in order to create a more confident Spanish speaker! Seeing the lightbulb go off when a student understands a new Spanish verb tense or when a psychological concept finally makes sense, is so exciting. Both subjects can be fairly challenging and I love to make it a bit easier with my years of knowledge in both areas.In my spare time I love to dance salsa, merengue, kizomba and bachata, DJ, hang out at the beach, and read! Growing up, I struggled in math. I remember being so nervous when I walked into a math class because I knew I would leave feeling unsure. I never want anyone else to feel that way. After graduation from the University of Central Florida, where I majored in Political Science and International Relations, I began serving with Americorps in the classroom.During my two years of service I taught, you guessed it: MATH. I taught 9th grade Algebra 1. What I realized during this time is that I actually love math. I also learned that sometimes when something comes to us easily, we don't know how to share that knowledge to someone else in a way that is beneficial to them. Because Math did not come to me naturally growing up, I have taught myself and my students in a very specific way. My method of help is simple: I am going to teach you math in the way that makes the most sense to you! I make sure not to overwhelm my students and help understand the "why" behind an answer. I will break down problems to the basics so it is digestable and so you can process the information best. All of the students I have tutored 1:1 have gone on to pass the Algebra 1 EOC Exam, which I attribute to the learning process that takes place in our sessions.

I'm a Senior Mathematics major studying at the College of Wooster in Ohio. While in school, I work part time aiding High school and early college students taking introductory calculus courses or studying for the SAT.In high school, I scored in the 92-percentile range for the Math SAT and often helped fellow students on an informal basis. Before formalizing my teaching experience, I was always able to connect with other students on an individual basis and help them grasp new concepts. When I teach, I focus on the connections with a certain topic to real world applications, making for an interesting and engaging experience.I am now in my fourth year of a Mathematics Major and have been helping other students for 2 years. I studied Calculus 1-3, Set theory, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability and statistics and Operations Research. Many of the students I taught in introductory calculus courses did well in these higher-level courses. I would often see them in groups of 3-4 and review practice problems for an exam, taking extra time to go over more difficult problems.For those who are still struggling with math, I find reward in not only helping them understand a certain topic, but reshaping the way they perceive it.
