Hi and welcome! My name is Abby and I completed my Bachelors in Economics at Bryn Mawr College, with a focus on international macroeconomic policy. I am a published author in the field of sustainable urban policy, and I am currently a Masters student at the University of Athens in the Science, Technology, and Society program. Previously, I was a Fulbright Grantee in Greece, where I did research on urban planning policy.During my Fulbright I gained experience tutoring new English speakers and editing essays for undergraduates and PhD students along with academic journal articles. Throughout college I was a tutor and assistant for Aesop Academy for consulting, where I assisted students in Excel, business case studies, and presentations. I also have experience tutoring middle school and high school students in a variety of subjects through my work with the California Scholarship Federation. I am most passionate about tutoring students in English, grammar, and essay writing. I also have experience in helping students with organization and study skills in addition to resumes and college essays/applications. I use a variety of methods tailored to each students' learning style, ranging from creating flow charts and study guides together to discussion or activity based learning. Outside of work in my free time, I am a dancer and I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and learning new languages. I look forward to working with you to help achieve your academic goals!

My love of teaching/tutoring, my ability to explain difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, as well as my deep understanding of aforementioned subjects have allowed for my students over the last 10 years of tutoring to excel. My goal is to not only give your student the skills necessary to excel in the particular tutoring subject, but also see real-world application of the material. Since I am a Mechanical Engineer currently working in the Aerospace industry, I have examples of how Math, Science and even Writing skills are vital to solving everyday problems. When tutoring, my goal is to truly get to know the student and make the material relevant to his/her life. For example, I would try to incorporate your student's interests into a Math or Science problem in order to make the problem personal. While I love tutoring all subjects, tutoring Math is definitely my favorite! From my experience teaching as a lecturer and laboratory instructor at both a university and community college, I have worked with students from varying educational backgrounds. It is particularly important for me to identify the learning style that best fits each student and present concepts that will be most effective for him or her. I am a UCLA Bioengineer. I am a well qualified tutor and have had many years of experience in both paid and unpaid roles from 6th grade to 12 grade to present. I have always excelled in academics, math, writing, and english and have scored well on all standardized tests and state tests. I have scored 800/800 in SAT 1 math, SAT 2 math. I have scored 760/800 in SAT writing. I received scores of 5/5 in AP Calculus AB and BC and have taken numerous other APs, passing the APs in Physics, Biology, Literature, Language and Composition, Environmental Science, Economics, US history, and Chemistry. I was the President of my high school's only tutoring club and only math club, Infinity Math Club, where I dedicated my time tutoring struggling students in all math levels. I was a tutor in my high school's RAMS program for all academic subjects. I love working with students and love to see them succeed in subjects that they once struggled in.

I have always appreciated education and the many ways it is relevant to our life. I am a recent college graduate from UC Riverside with a BA in Psychology. Being able to say that I have a college education is a privilege and an honor to me because I feel I am making a difference in my life and my family's life being the first one to graduate from college. Along the way I had many struggles and difficulties being an immigrant to the US. I did not know English or had any friends or family other than my parents and brothers. I worked really hard and good people supported me in my journey. I know how hard getting an education can be and how students can feel overwhelmed with accomplishing their dreams. That is why I would do my best as a Varsity Tutor to influence and help students grow in their journey as productive members of our society. The journey starts from a young age and developing good habits and a positive mind set is valuable from an early age. I am delighted to be part of Varsity Tutors and making a difference in students life.

I believe that gaining an understanding of a topic can transform how you view of the world and I believe we all need help sometimes to get from where we are to where we want to be.By first getting an understanding of my client's needs, I am able to patiently break down the material in a way that makes it less overwhelming and help boost their confidence by emphasizing what they already know. I have a degree in marketing management but spent several years as a senior technician in both nuclear power and nuclear waste remediation. When not studying for the healthcare degree that I'm pursuing, I am learning to paint, snowboard, golf, and am also learning to play the guitar. I just graduated from the professional program at Second City which provides invaluable skills in adapting to different students' styles and for keeping things light and fun; two things which math is not famous for.

As a graduate of the UC Davis Linguistics department, I can empathize with the harsh demands of academia. For students of any age level, I believe striving for the best is a huge indicator of future success.
