Deanna

Anatomy Tutor • +33 Subjects

One of my students wrote, "Deanna has helped me throughout my entire student career. We have had a lot of talks about achieving my dreams to become a nurse. She is very easy to talk to and when I think things are totally impossible she helps me to see how things can work out. And things did work out: I graduated from the LPN program on May 11th of this year. I owe a large part of that to her for helping me along the way; what an awesome person she is! I believe anyone that has a problem with school or otherwise would benefit from talking to her. She helps you see that the impossible is possible."Reading these kind words is humbling and inspiring. Tutoring is an enormous responsibility as well as an honor. Learning is a two-way street. I learn as much from listening to my students and helping them find their own paths to success as they gain from my experience and passion for teaching. My qualifications include:EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS2012 - A.A.S. I received a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University, majoring in Psychology and minoring in both, Chemistry and Biology. I obtained my Ph.D. from West Virginia University in Biomedical Sciences, with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. I researched heart function in Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, which was super cool. I am currently debating whether to go back to school and get my MBA for future endeavors and ideas that I have brewing in my head.I have worked extensively with all levels of students. As a graduate student at WVU, I worked with Elementary, Middle, and High School students teaching them STEM topics and involving myself volunteer opportunities in STEM outreach and education. I started teaching in Higher Education working with all collegiate and professional school students, mostly within the Exercise Science Department right after graduate school. In 2018, I began AxoSchools, a collaborative homeschool experience tailored to what each student needs. I am currently the Director of Education, Curriculum Development, and Instruction. I work daily to write curriculum encompassing all subjects that are engaging for the students and based on topics they love to learn about. During COVID, I transitioned us all quickly to an online learning platform, allowing us to carry out our daily learning together, as well as helped public school teachers in their virtual classrooms. Through AxoSchools, I have worked with Elementary, Middle, and High School students teaching them all subjects! My favorite subject to tutor is science because it is always so exciting and you get to learn how things work and why things happen the way they do in the body, in the world, and beyond!! There is so much discovery and I love that.I am dedicated to student-centered learning, connecting with the student at his/her/they/their level in order to provide the best education possible. I use a multifaceted approach to help students grasp and retain concepts. Some hobbies of mine are hiking, working out, volunteering, doing good in the world through working with non-profits, traveling, hanging out with friends, being outside, reffing soccer and basketball, and playing board games.I am an outgoing, energetic, inventive, patient educator that is ready to work with you to reach your goals!

Learning should be an exciting joyful experience. If we start with what we know and seek new knowledge that connects from there, learning will be easy. The average person needs 10 times to master any new knowledge. It is totally normal to forget and need to review previous knowledge. Each time we relearn material it is easier and is more likely to be permanent. Vygotsy's theory of the "zone of proximal development" or ZPD states that a person will learn best within the range of their current development. If it's boring, it is to low. If it is confusing, it is to high. Adjusting materials (scaffolding) or providing support are two ways to provide optimal learning. See you online.

I graduated high school from Bakersfield Christian high school and went out to Arizona to now attend Grand Canyon University for a degree studying Special and Elementary Education. Teaching is a major passion for me because I love kids and want each student to find how they can be successful in life by finding their own passion. Through middle and high school, I tutored any elementary subject that was needed for the children I babysat for. For my friends that I tutored, I mostly stuck with math and history because those are the subjects I did best in. I don't have a specific tutoring style because I think it is best to accommodate for the students needs individually, not just assume what works for one child is going to work for another. Although a lot of my time is taken up with school and work, I also enjoy reading, painting, and anything that gives me an excuse to hang out with my friends.

I have an MA in Sports Journalism from Arizona State University and a BA in Journalism from The University of Kentucky. I have been writing for about a decade and love everything in the creative space. During my time in school, I covered a wide array of sports from volleyball and track and field to baseball and basketball. Additionally, I spent time as a beat reporter for the Phoenix Suns and Mercury and covered Arizona Fall League, the SEC indoor track championships, and Phoenix Suns training camp among other big events.Outside of my wide sports background, I am an author currently writing the second book in my Jack of All Trades series, a huge movie enthusiast, and an anime fan.I have three years of tutoring experience and three years of experience being a teaching assistant. The thing I love most about tutoring is helping students grow and learn new material as well as new things about themselves. Because at the end of the day I feel everyone needs help to get where they want in life.

"Every day is a school day!" That sentence, spoken to me by my father one Saturday afternoon, is possibly the most important thing anyone has ever said to me. Every day brings opportunities to learn something new and exciting about our world and our place in it.My parents imbued me with a lifelong passion for education. And having three children of my own, I worked hard to instill the same passion in them. I'm proud to say that I tutored them with great success one is a doctor, another is a software engineer, and the third is a business major at a top college in the U.S.I'm now on a mission to help others learn. Not just to teach them the rules of what they are learning not just the trick to solving this formula, or why that sentence is "incomplete" but to show students how their learning relates to the real world. To show them what the application of their learning might be to their life in college or their career.I have an engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Washington. Those degrees, in combination, give me a broad perspective on subjects rooted in math, science, and the humanities. I use that perspective daily as an entrepreneur and owner of a marketing media company serving some of the world's largest tech companies. If you're serious about your education and curious about how things work and why, I would love to tutor you. Let's get together soon and master your subject.

As a lifelong learner, I am driven to help others achieve their academic goals. I am currently a part-time instructor for math, science, and computers. In addition to having a Masters degree I have over 10 years of business experience. This has allowed me to help translate to students how they can use the information they are learning at school in the real world. I have worked with students of all ages and truly love helping students master the basics of their subjects so that they can succeed in their classes.I am most passionate about tutoring math and helping students understand how to break down problems. I work to evaluate their current comprehension and strive to build a strong foundation of knowledge. I often tell my students that math is just like learning another language. Once they learn to master the basics they are able to read and solve problems successfully. I care deeply about my students' success and I strive to make learning fun and relatable to their world.
