What is your teaching philosophy?
I truly believe that all students are capable of learning and being successful in their learning. Students learn in different ways and at different paces. It is up to us as educators to discover how to unlock this in our students and motivate them in their learning.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
To begin the session I like to introduce myself to the student and get to know them a little bit. I want the student to feel comfortable working with me and enjoy their tutoring sessions. I then like to do a baseline assessment with the student to get a better understanding of their abilities and what they are struggling with. This helps me to better target the student's individual needs. I use this to guide my tutoring session and work to help the student improve in their subject area.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I love making learning fun and enjoyable. I feel that this helps to keep the student motivated and wanting to learn more. I like using educational games and activities to help keep thing fun and enjoyable. I also like to celebrate the student's successes and make them feel proud of what they have accomplished. I feel that this helps keep the students wanting to work to accomplish more.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Assessment is a key component to making sure that the student is understanding the material and showing growth. I like to do quick checks throughout the lesson to make sure they are understanding what is being taught. I also like to do a formative assessment at the end of the lesson to check their understanding.
