I am a 2005 graduate of Vassar College (Bachelor's) and 2009 graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University (Master's). I have taught English Language and Literature for five years in both NYC public schools and a private academy in New Jersey. As a tutor, I have worked with high school students in the Bronx and suburban New Jersey on reading and math skills.
My passion for Literature arrived late; as the only child of a book publisher and librarian, I had to get my rebellion in somewhere. But ever since I was introduced to Kurt Vonnegut in college, reading has been an obsession. I've spent years trying to force this love into gum snapping high school students, and when I see that spark of awareness that some of us get from reading great books, it makes up for all the swings and misses on students who just want to get the grade and get out the door.
Even if you think reading is something to do only when the power goes out, I can help you find something unique and yes, even interesting in your dreaded required Literature.
