For the last for four years I have also mentored middle school students through weekly meetings aimed at improving their reading skills and powers of expression. I also help my middle school sister with math homework.I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University and am currently working toward my Masters of Business Administration at the University of Southern California.Outside of the classroom I am passionate about driving social chance through business and community development.

After graduating from Westivew High School, I attended UC Davis for a year, studying mechanical engineering. I am currently at a junior college with the intention of transferring to a different 4 year university. I have been tutoring math, science, and test preparation for 4 years for students of all ages. I am strongest in high level math, which is my favorite subject to tutor as well.My teaching style involves guiding the student through exercises instead of just showing them how to complete them. This way, they are more engaged in the tutoring session and are able to get more out of it.Outside of school and tutoring I enjoy playing soccer, going to the beach, and mountain biking.

I graduated from Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in World Language Education with a focus in Spanish, as well as a minor in Anthropology. I am a very passionate and experienced tutor. During my time at Purdue, I worked with one of my professors on a program called "Ayuda y Aprende". We went to the local middle school and high school once a week and tutored the English Language Learner students. I absolutely loved those four years of tutoring. Each piece builds off of something else, creating a more complete picture. It's therefore always important to have a solid grasp of the basics - to understand the previous steps - before learning each new topic. My approach to tutoring thus focuses less on memorizing formulas and more on understanding why these work and how you can arrive at them yourself.I have always enjoyed being able to help other people and my somewhat unique outlook on mathematics, coupled with my experienced mathematics background, have enabled me to assist many different people in the past. Among the companies I have worked for are Intuit, where I was a project manager for Quicken, and Aclara BioSciences where I was a biotech programmer and manager. In 2006 I transitioned to teaching and have taught Computer Science and Philosophy at the high school and middle school levels. I am currently a Computer Science teacher at The Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Computer Science and English. My students have gone on to MIT, Stanford, and UC. I am a firm proponent of the "growth mindset", believing that focused effort can lead to mastery of any subject, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students.
