This session, the student and I worked with one of her math programs and we spent most of the time trying to figure out how it worked. We were doing angle and segment bisectors which wasn't too hard for the student.

Tutoring review by Alexandria in Omak, WA
Today, we covered taking the derivative of logarithmic functions and limits. The student was very positive as always. I left her to go over a few problems and to ask her teacher some questions. A big win of the session was when she fully understood fractional exponents. She needed help with fully understanding ln and log rules. Her scores show her improving.

Tutoring review by Adam in Omak, WA
The student took the assessment exam on algebra, as a practice test the other day, and tonight we went over those problems and looked carefully at the ones that troubled her. We discussed test taking strategies that yield best results. I introduced a problem solving model that will help her to better organize data from word problems that lack visual aids and ultimately help her to accurately solve them. We also looked at the categories to give her a rough idea of what types of question to expect more and less of. She says she feels exceptionally confident about the upcoming exam.

Tutoring review by Maroun in Omak, WA
The student said he's been doing very well on his quizzes, which makes me feel good about his upcoming test next week. So today we focused on sections 2.5, 2.7 and 2.8. The topics included correlation and best-fitting lines, piecewise functions, and absolute value functions. He seemed to understand the concepts well; however, there was a bit of struggle in understanding some of the problems as he's never encountered something like this before. The challenge came when he had to write piecewise function and absolute value function equations given only a graph. At first he wasn't really understanding what the exercise was asking. I was able to explain to him that we're basically working backwards on similar problems that he has done. I also reminded him that he is fully capable of writing equations of lines when he is given 2 sets of coordinates. This helped as he was able to locate coordinates on the graph to help him in writing the equations. These problems were definitely a first for him, and I have to agree with him that they were challenging based on what he has learned so far. However, I was proud to see him staying focused, speaking up when he was lost, and working through all of this week's assignments, even the ones due early next week.

The student had a review packet, so we spent most of our time working through it. I am pleased to say that he absorbed a lot of our last lesson, and we revisited a lot of strategies from our last class.
