As a graduate of both in-person and online educational programs and universities, I am acutely aware of the challenges that can accompany these different learning formats. It is my passion to help students be successful in any learning environment they find themselves in. It is an honor to be a part of your journey to success! Any educational journey is not for the faint of heart! My own journey to becoming a Registered Nurse (BSN) was wraught ups and downs, mountaintops and valleys! I found success in utilizing tutors during my time in school, facilitating study groups, and staying organized in my study notes and in life in general. I am a huge proponent of learning to understand so that learned knowledge can be applied to a variety of scenarios/questions. I stay current in my nursing practice by working at a local hospital in a nearby city. I enjoy teaching and mentoring new nurses and student nurses on site. And I get to feed my love of helping those learn here at Varsity Tutors! During the school year I also teach as an adjunct faculty at Boise State University in their School of Nursing which I really enjoy! My special focus is High School/Adult learners. I would love to come alongside you and help you develop the skills you need to be successful!

I am really passionate about all the subjects that I teach and my goal with tutoring is to inspire my students to feel the same passion. I love tutoring because I love being able to make a positive difference in my students lives.
I am a self-proclaimed math and science nerd with 5+ years tutoring/teaching experience. I have a Bachelor of Science in physics from Brigham Young University-Idaho and a Master of Science in materials science from the University of Washington. In addition to my education I have also taught college physics for over a year. With such a diverse background I am able to tutor in physics, all levels of mathematics (including calculus and beyond), and even materials science if you're interested in it. My personal favorite subjects are physics, calculus, and pre-calculus. My approach to tutoring is to help students re-learn what they may have missed or forgotten and to assist them in discovering patterns and methods necessary to solve problems on their own. In other words, my job is to work myself out of a job; and I am very good at it! Some of my personal hobbies include hiking, fishing, photography, running, genealogy, and blogging about science (check it out at www.matphy.com). As I continue my own education I am currently investigating graduate programs to complete my Ph.D. in physics with an emphasis in optical properties of semiconducting materials.
I am currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, complemented by minors in Pre-Professional Health Sciences and Spanish for the Health Professions. With five years of tutoring experience, I specialize in high school chemistry, math, and writing, however I am willing to tutor in a wide variety of subjects. My approach to tutoring is centered on fostering confidence and understanding in my students. I believe in creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing their struggles, as I guide them through concepts using tailored questions and varied explanations. This method allows me to identify their needs and adapt my teaching accordingly. My background in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, where I excelled in subjects such as HL Chemistry and HL Language and Literature, fuels my passion for the subject, and I enjoy helping students navigate challenging topics.
For over two years, I've supported students and professional writers alike as a tutor and consultant, and for five years, I've worked on novels as a developmental editor. I graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public and Professional Writing, and I specialize in ACT English, college English, technical writing, and creative writing. I tailor my strategies to each student's needs, using a collaborative, student-centered style based on research, including research I conducted and presented at the 2024 National Conference for Peer Tutoring in Writing. My passion for writing and communication motivates me to guide students in finding their voices and achieving their academic goals. I aim to help students grow beyond my tutoring and gain experience that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
I am a recent graduate of Southern Utah University, where I obtained my Bachelor's of Music in Oboe Performance and my Bachelor's of Science in Theatre Arts. I tutor Music Theory/Music and Theatre. I love helping students reach their potential in their studies, as well as helping them foster an enjoyment for the arts and other subjects. I have mainly taught at summer theater camps, as well as teaching private oboe lessons in pedagogy classes for my degree. I aim to establish a sense of trust between myself and students, as I believe education is best obtained by first feeling comfortable. I want to encourage students to do their best, but I also aim to challenge them to think outside the box and expand their minds. Outside of education and the performing arts, I enjoy spending time painting, practicing yoga, paddleboarding, and reading.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I'm Solange - a recent graduate from Harvard where I studied Sociology & Women's Studies. I've been tutoring for eight years now, and have worked with a wide range of ages and in a wide range of subjects. Some of my specialties are college prep/test taking II worked in the admissions office on campus); social sciences; and literature/writing.
I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I have been tutoring my fellow students throughout my entire academic career, and I would best describe my tutoring style as one that adapts to each students' needs. For example, I have always tried to frame questions in a different way so that the student can better understand the question. Some students need visual representations of numbers and systems to understand them, and others benefit more by understanding the concepts behind each formula. I prefer to tutor in math and physics, and especially with real world application problems. I hope to help students improve their standardized test scores and their understanding of the math and sciences so that they can achieve their academic goals!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across Nampa's 21 schools and 8 school districts with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends a school in the Nampa School District, Middleton-Umpqua, or another local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands Idaho's academic standards and local curriculum expectations.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 20.1:1 in Nampa schools, many students benefit from personalized 1-on-1 attention that classroom settings can't always provide. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who can focus entirely on their individual learning style, pace, and specific academic gaps—something that's difficult to achieve in larger classroom environments.
Tutors working with Nampa students are familiar with Idaho's academic standards across math, English language arts, science, and social studies. They tailor instruction to align with what your student's school expects, whether that's preparing for state assessments, mastering specific grade-level skills, or catching up after gaps in learning.
Nampa students typically seek help with algebra and geometry, where foundational gaps can compound over time, as well as English writing and reading comprehension. We also work with many elementary students on foundational math and reading skills, and high schoolers preparing for the SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific learning goals. The tutor will assess your student's current understanding, discuss any challenges they're facing, and create a personalized plan to address their needs—whether that's test prep, subject mastery, or building confidence in a particular area.
Many students see noticeable progress within 4-6 weeks of consistent tutoring, especially when working on specific skills or test preparation. However, the timeline depends on your student's starting point, the subject, and how frequently they meet with their tutor. We recommend discussing realistic goals with your tutor during the first session.
Tutors can work with students on one subject or multiple subjects, depending on what works best for your student. Some students benefit from focused help in one area like algebra, while others prefer a tutor who can support them across math and science or English and history. You can discuss your preferences when connecting with a tutor.
Varsity Tutors works with students' schedules, whether they need sessions after school, on weekends, or during the summer. We understand that Nampa families juggle sports, activities, and other commitments, so tutors can often accommodate different times that work best for your student's routine.
