Tutoring review by Kwaku in Freeport, NY
Today, the student and I continued with her algebra work and Chemistry. We discussed limiting reagents and percent yield in chemistry. And in algebra, we discussed rationalizing denominators, and then we reviewed her homework, which included simplifying expressions with exponents. She has really improved this week. I believe the help of me and her teacher to catch back up to pace has been great for her. She has a positive attitude towards the material and is learning really well. I told her the best study skills are do the practice problems from the book, so that she gets as much experience with problems as possible. She has a test coming up next week, and I believe that she will do well. If she keeps working hard, she will continue to progress.

Tutoring review by Diane in Freeport, NY
We all learned a little about each other -- the student, his mom and his tutor. We found out his math teacher's name and wrote a note to ask his math teacher to email the subjects he is covering to his tutor. He said his teacher wants him to do 4th grade lessons, but I suggested starting with 6th grade lessons because he is in 6th grade. We started with a lesson on integers, and this was not familiar to him. So we went to the very first 6th grade lesson, and he completed it with not too much trouble. We went on to the next lesson, which was more challenging, but I showed him how to work out his questions to come up with the answers on his own. I told him I want him to do one math lesson every day. I enjoyed teaching him, He seemed eager to learn and picked up concepts quickly. I think with his teacher's guidance and my help, he will overcome his past struggles with math.

The student worked on her algebra homework to prepare her for a quiz. We covered properties and practiced with exponents and order of operations. Once we had finished with her worksheets we worked through some functions practice. I left her with functions practice problems for next week. The major problems that she was having were with order of operations and keeping her signs.

Tutoring review by Taylor in Freeport, NY
During this session, we worked primarily on the student's written answers to her take home assignment on social and regional dialects. We worked on researching information from the course textbook as well as online sources. We then outlined her main ideas for each short written question and proceeded to write it. Afterwards, we worked on the editing process as well.

Tutoring review by Manny in Freeport, NY
The student and I reviewed concepts of graphing rational functions. He used different techniques and strategies in order to find out when the graph is either positive or negative, as well as find the changes of graphs and rational roots. This was his strongest session yet, so we hope that this could be his best test by far. We will continue to meet next Thursday to review a new chapter.

The student and I had our second session, and I helped him to practice his upcoming oral presentation/assessment in his course. I reviewed the information and vocabulary he wanted to use, and we spoke in French, running through the dialogue and possible questions that he would encounter in class.
