While I was studying in university, the students in our major would meet for group study sessions to review concepts we had learned in class. Our study groups grew smaller and developed into sessions where I was tutoring others more-so than reviewing. I found that I derive great satisfaction witnessing the "Aha! Moment" when my class-mates, and later trainees, understood a concept. I was able to see the improvements first-hand and it elated me to see them succeed.I have been a 'trainer' in every career I've had. This has increased my skill in demonstrating procedural activities as well as offering multiple alternatives to obtain the same result, and establishing a more efficient way to deliver training information. My passion is mainly Biology and Chemistry, but I enjoy assisting in the understanding of a variety of topics and am more than willing to offer what I know.Beyond that, I have been a tutor for my niece from grade 2 to grade five. This including a range of topics increasing in difficulty over the years, such as basic spelling, vocabulary, reading and arithmetics, ultimately evolving to include more than just the core classes.

I am a recent graduate from Columbia University where I majored in neuroscience and philosophy. I have been tutoring for many years both privately and more formally in the classroom setting, focusing mainly on students in grades 9-12 (although I have worked with essentially all ages). In my career-plan, I am aiming to become a professor and researcher in the sciences and psychology--this is derived from my love of teaching and inspiring passion in others for what they may not naturally find interesting. I have cultivated many skills that are incredibly useful for students aiming to maintain a solid GPA, do well on the SATs, and get into the college of their choice. I especially know, very well, what admissions committees are looking for, and I have facilitated the acceptance of many students (who struggled considerably with academics and standardized tests) into ivy league and other top tier schools. I believe that the most successful learning comes when the student is able to develop a self-sustaining curiosity and interest in the subject matter, and, along with imparting skills and techniques to maintain grades and test scores, I have developed techniques myself to make students feel this sort of interest in what they're studying (even for the subjects that had previously seemed to be the most mundane).

I am a mechanical engineering student at Stony Brook University in an accelerated B.E./M.S. program. Currently I am finishing up both of my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I decided to become a tutor because I love academia, and I use math as well as physics daily. After my first few sessions I came to love it, and I have been doing it for a number of years now. I have tutored students ranging from elementary school through college, but my favorite level to help students is high school. In my sessions I like to show students the reason behind everything. I believe if you know why you're doing something, you can more easily understand how to do it. When I have some free time I like to work on small engineering projects. I just got my hands on a programmable micro-controller, and I have been making it do some pretty neat things! I also like to go biking.

I am a recent graduate and current graduate student from Cornell University. I received my Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Biology and Society with a concentration in Health and Humanities and a minor in Nutritional Sciences. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health concentrating in Food Systems and Health. During my undergrad, I cofounded an organization called Cornell College and Career Readiness Initiative (CCRI). I am still actively involved in this program serving as a mentor and tutor for local high school students in SAT prep, high school English, Math and Science courses, and in college essay writing/admissions.Throughout my academic career, I have looked to tutoring services to give me the guidance and confidence needed to navigate my courses and perform well. I have learned that efforts are most successful if delivered in a way that people can understand. Everyone learns differently and for that reason, my goal is to establish a tutoring style that favors your learning style for overall success. I am really passionate about writing, health sciences and academic counseling/support. In my free time, I write public health related content in English and Spanish for my blog, go on (short) runs with my puppy, and binge Netflix shows.

With over 20 years of attending school regularly, receiving a free public school education, and making every effort to achieve in all areas of my education, I know what it means to be a successful teacher. My teaching career encompasses substantial student diversity, including elementary, middle school, and college students from different cultural backgrounds, both one-on-one and in classroom setting. In several instances, students were in my class only because they were required to take it. In spite of this, I succeeded in instilling in many of them a respect for the subject and a grasp of the fundamental principals. Because of my technical experience, I am comfortable using a combination of technology and traditional teaching methods to communicate mathematical concepts to students and have successfully done so throughout the past few years.I firmly believe that every child is entitled to an enriching education, respect, and professionalism. My goals are to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strength, abilities and activities that truly inspire them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that fosters confidence and encourages children to reach their full potential. I take the responsibilities of an educator very seriously and will work hard to develop mutual trust and respect from the administration.Along with my skills, I will bring a creative, positive energy to your school, accompanied by a desire and willingness to work with others to achieve a common goal. With strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills, I am confident that I am a strong math tutor.

I am a current ELA Middle School Teacher in New York City. I have provided whole and small group reading instruction aligned to the Common Core Standards. Before moving to New York in late 2011, I completed my Master's degree at Boston University in Teaching and Curriculum.Teaching is not only instructional but social, and it is rooted in building relationships. While it is important to be firm, it's equally important to have a relationship with students and parents. My philosophy stems from years of public service after college. In 2008 I was a corps member at City Year Boston in which I taught literacy to disadvantaged students. Soon after, I joined Teach For America in 2009 as a corps member and worked in the Boston Public School system. I was lucky enough to teach a range of grades (Grade 2-8) in both public and private school settings.I enjoy teaching, moreover I love READING! Literacy is my passion. Teaching kids to read is a difficult task; there is no one magic bullet. There are many factors I target while teaching or supporting a struggling/reluctant reader. I also try to instill a joy of reading to struggling/reluctant readers by exposing the student to different types of literature and using other methods. I tutor students as an opportunity to reach more students and support them with reading. I look forward to working with your child.

I am a biology, physics, chemistry, and math tutor, and I hope my academic achievements can catch your eye: masters student in epidemiology at Columbia, Biology degree from Washington University in St. Louis (14th nationally), extensive coursework in chemistry and physics, lab work in immunology and genetics, GRE scores in the 90th percentile, and MCAT scores in the 91st percentile. However, what I find much more important for your students is my experience and love of teaching, and I do not think anything illustrates that better than my time in Korea. I had been tutoring for about five years when I decided to move to South Korea. I went there because I wanted to get more exposure to teaching while also indulging in some adventure. Foreign English programs can vary widel, but mine was not a coasting position. I taught between 16 and 30 hour-long classes a week and then had to design lesson plans, run language club, write homework and tests, and then grade them. What is amazing, however, was I stayed longer than my contract. Even after being on my feet and using my voice for 30 hours a week, I loved the job. I ended up staying there two and a half years and would probably still be there if a career in science had not been calling me. Teaching is not simply a way of getting me through school. It has been a part of my entire adult life, and I do not see myself stopping anytime soon.I am very interested in the subjects I teach, and I make it my mission to pass some of my passion on to my students. On more than one occasion students have gone from telling me how much they hate a subject to actually telling me they like it. I also was very quiet as a child and am empathetic to shy students (in fact I often find them the most rewarding). In my personal life I like to read especially sci-fi and fantasy. I recently picked the clarinet back up after playing in high school, and I am just trying to soak up the city while I am here. My girlfriend and I enjoy going to Broadway shows, going to comedy clubs, and participating in "escape the room."I hope you have an idea of what I would be like as a tutor, and I hope to hear from you soon so we can begin working together. Thanks so much.

Growing up with a teacher for a mother, I have always been challenged to learn. A voracious reader, writer, and student, I always loved learning. These interests were compounded by the desire to share the knowledge I acquired from each new topic of study. As early as grade school, I assisted in teaching my brother to read. Throughout our childhood, then high school and college, I have worked with friends, classmates, and colleagues as a tutor in a wide range of subjects. I strive to further my students' understanding of given material and engage them with new ways of working through problems.

I tutor a wide range of subjects, with a background in humanities, arts and math. I've been a language teacher for the past seven years, focusing on "twice exceptional" students, those who are highly gifted and have challenges like autism, executive functioning, and learning disabilities. With master's degrees in both Mathematical Physics and Special Education, I love teaching both advanced subject material and the fundamentals of literacy, organizing, and the whole human that go along with all learning. I often say I work best with folks who "love learning but hate school."I am very flexible with teaching, ethics and focus on student needs, styles and interests. In languages especially, I can bring students to great leaps in proficiency through low-stress, research-backed methods like immersion in "comprehensible input" and learning through stories and cultural material with lots of context.
