I am a passionate educator with over eight years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have worked with many different kinds of learners during my career as a public school teacher, and I understand that every student has their own unique way of growing and of mastering skills. I have experience teaching a wide variety of literature and non-fiction texts and am very familiar with the Common Core and its emphasis on research skills. I especially enjoy teaching writing; I myself love to write and I teach students a clear process for approaching challenging essay assignments. Above all, I believe that learning should be meaningful and enjoyable and that any academic task is part of a student's personal journey of discovery. My undergraduate education at Columbia University gave me a thorough understanding of British, American, Latino, and African-American literature. My Master of Arts program in Adolescent English Education at Hunter College has enhanced my knowledge of literature while also covering the teaching skills that allow me to help students to master difficult concepts.I am a confident teacher of test preparation skills. I provide reading and writing strategies that empower students to perform at a high level on selected-response, short response, and essay questions. I emphasize the importance of analyzing test questions and passages so that students have a clear "plan of attack" on test day.My personal interests include playing guitar, songwriting, Tai Chi, and meditation.

I am a Columbia University student, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. I am a lover of literature and an avid writer, and believe that finding something you're passionate about and skilled with is the best way to have lasting self-confidence. I am also a classical double-bass player taking lessons at The Juilliard School. I have experience both as an individual tutor, and as a classroom teacher, and I really try to work with a student's individualistic goals, to ultimately find tools to help them teach themselves. Some of my experiences include teaching music to students ages 4-16 in Ecuador, and working with the Police Athletic League in NYC, for their after-school music program. I believe that seeking tutoring is a sign of caring about your success and your personal growth, and I value that in every student.

I am a graduate of New York University. I received my Master of Science degree in Global Affairs with a focus on International Relations Future. During my academic years as well as after graduation, I have travelled extensively to different parts of the world as I believe that the best way to open up and become a better person is by experiencing the different cultures. I have always been passionate about learning different languages. Languages include history and culture so they always go along hand in hand. Languages have always been my passion and I discovered that passion at a very young age. I speak English, French, Spanish, Russian and Armenian fluently (as well as reading, writing and grammar) and I had already mastered all of them at the age of 15. However, I never stopped to put in additional work to strengthen my skills. I spent a semester abroad in Argentina where I mastered my language skills. Later on after graduating with my bachelor's degree I worked at the United Nations where all the languages were a strong skill to communicate with the offices across the globe. I believe that languages are one of the strongest skills that connect and bring people closer from different parts of the world, and it is never too late to learn a new language. Speaking of bringing people closer, my husband is French and and when we met he did not speak English and we were communicating only in French. We have lived quite some time in Lyon, France (highly recommend visiting) where I perfected my French even more. Having been a student of learning a language from scratch before, my approach of teaching a language is to be as clear and as simple as possible from the point of view of a new student and encouraging them to fully embrace the language along with its history and its culture as they are all interconnected. I have tutored previously my school classmates in different subject matters including languages. Additionally I have been teaching international/ballroom dancing to beginner groups, children and wedding couples. I got into languages because I was very curious about the beautiful songs that I would dance to but no necessarily know what they were talking about. I am very excited to teach and share my expertise and experiences with any of the subject matters that students might be interested in whether languages or dancing.

I recently graduated from Columbia University where I excelled in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Organic Chemistry. For over a year, I have tutored college and high school students in these subjects. I learned that every student learns differently, so I try to utilize creativity in my teaching approaches. My goal is to steer each student to that “ah-ha” moment so that they truly understand the material.I am currently in the process of applying to medical school, which I plan to start in August 2015. In addition, I like to bike, play the drums, ski, and watch football for fun.

I've worked was a volunteer docent at the American Museum of Natural History while I was in high school, teaching visitors and students about the various dioramas on view and giving demonstrations of phenomena like buoyancy. More recently I had the opportunity to work as a student caller at the Renssealaer Annual Fund, where I got to engage in alumni relations and answer the questions of parents of current students. Although I'd never worked in a sales position before that, my experience there helped me to learn how to talk with people and find out how they work and what interests them.At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (my alma mater as of May 2015, also known as RPI), I enjoyed having the chance to work with my friends and colleagues and help them with their school work. More than the thrill of problem solving was the satisfaction I got when I helped them understand a problem and work through it themselves. At RPI I studied mathematics although I also had an interest in physics and computer science. As a tutor I look forward to helping you better understand math! The subjects I'm looking to teach include calculus, multivariate calculus, and differential equations, although I can also teach algebra for those who need it.Every student is different and to help them learn it's important to listen to them and decide on how to teach them, either with theory, applied problems, or some other method. This was something I learnt while I was responsible for leading practice sessions for one of my school's martial arts club.In my spare time I am learning how to be a developer and data scientist so I might eventually achieve my goal of one of those careers. I also really enjoy to read, run, and am currently learning how to play the piano, something I have always wanted to do since I was a kid. Teaching myself how to do these things has helped me better appreciate how constructive guidance from a tutor can be.

As a medical student at the CUNY School of Medicine and a Full IB Diploma recipient of Yonkers High School, I have always found an affection for the learning community. As an older sister of two younger brothers, I have grown up tutoring and helping my brothers in all subjects focusing especially on English, Mathematics, and the Sciences. My passion for the medical sciences, chemistry, and biology led me to pursue a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and tutor in subjects such as biochemistry, immunology, virology as well as standardized exams like SATs and ACTs as well as IB Exams. My students have always appreciated my patience and dedication to helping them succeed and achieve their goals.

I graduated in the Summer of 2012 from Queens College. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Pure Mathematics. After graduating, I applied to the Master's program and was accepted as a pure mathematics student beginning in Fall of 2012.I have worked as a private in-home tutor during both my undergraduate degree and master's degree. Tutoring has typically been long-term, with a couple of short-term or one-off students. I tutored students between the ages of 11 to 16 years old, primarily with Mathematics, but also with English, Physics, and basic Chemistry. During this time, my experience teaching Mathematics has been in the fields of arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and pre-calculus.I have also tutored a few of my college-aged friends to help them study for upcoming calculus and statistics finals.By far, my favorite subject to tutor is mathematics. Arithmetic and geometry have such beautiful, intricate relationships which I find fascinating. I think, as a result, my teaching philosophy is more exploratory and less rigid. If a student is engaged, I am more than willing to help them explore the world of mathematics as well. I personally retain information better when I can see the elaborate underpinnings of the world around us, and I think I bring that same philosophy to my tutoring sessions. If a student is having difficulty grasping a concept, I will try to reduce it to its simplest terms, so that he/she can follow the threads on their own to unravel the solution.Academics aside, I love music. Since 2006, I've played guitar as a hobby. I love blues and jazz music, both listening and playing. I own both an Applause AE-128 and an Epiphone SG-250 guitar. I had a Carlos Robelli, which I donated to a friend back in 2010 or so.I also enjoy reading non-fiction literature. In the past few years, I've discovered that I love reading about the history of mathematics and physics. I feel almost as if it gives me a chance to live through the most exciting and interesting parts of history. Most recently, I've finished reading /Bridges to Infinity/ and /Prime Obsession/. On my bookshelf are copies of /Euler's Gem/, /Conned Again, Watson!/, and of course Euclid's "Elements." I'm currently reading /Five Equations that Changed the World/.
