Trained as an Engineer, I am a creative problem solver, which comes in handy with my 4 year old twins! I love to craft and decorate my home. My goal this year is to see more of Florida, where I live.

I am a graduate of University of Florida in Health Science Education. I served the United States Navy for 8 years as a Nuclear Electronic Technician. I have three beautiful children, and they are the reason I am tutoring so that I can have a flexible schedule and be there for them.I have been tutoring since I was in 5th grade. I love tutoring children, but I started to love tutoring adults while in the navy and at Valencia Community College. I love helping people and I get such a thrill when people come to me because they are having a hard time understanding various concepts in class and leave with a smile on their face because they finally understand. I also utilize a tutoring method where the student fully utilizes their critical thinking skills also known as the Socratic method. Although I work with ages 11-16 right now, I love working with younger students who are struggling with foundational skills, and older students who are trying to refine their math craft. I'm very patient and thorough when it comes to my learners, I like to make sure that every concept is fully understood before moving on, and I often like to do quick flashbacks to make sure nothing has been forgotten. I tend to individual needs very well seeing as how I am used to dealing with 20 individuals at a time who all need different things. Outside of school I love to read, travel, and explore new places with my friends. I look forward to working with different people and ensuring that they meet their math goals!

As an educator for the past 40 years, I believe that education is the key to success and a high quality of life. Regardless of your race, ethnicity and economic status, obtaining a high- quality education will provide opportunities to improve your life. One of the most important elements in obtaining a good educational foundation, is the development of reading, writing and communication skills early on. Literacy is key across all the academic subjects. That is why I am passionate about helping young students develop their literacy competencies in English as well as in Spanish. I have taught for 35 years in the NYC public school system. During that time, I taught reading and Spanish as a second language to students in grades K-12. For the past 5 years, I have tutored students in reading/writing to prepare them for the standardized test, and in Spanish for second language enrichment. I have also tutored high school students on the SAT ELA test component. It has been very rewarding for me to see my students succeed in attaining their academic goals through the tutoring strategies they learn from my tutoring lessons.

All students can learn and have a destination; They will get there their own way and in their own time.

I am currently an Intensive Reading teacher and cheer coach in Florida. I graduated from Florida State University and then attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. I knew from a young age I had a passion to help others but it wasn't until after law school and moving back to Florida that I realized I can make more of an impact in children's lives by teaching than by practicing law. I do continue to use my law degree in a volunteer capacity as a Guardian Ad Litem but felt a calling to teaching when I was looking for something that was more rewarding and I knew I wanted to work with kids and help them reach their goals, so here I am teaching.I love my job as an intensive reading teacher because I get to incorporate my passion for history with my desire to help kids grow and reach their full potential. I've learned throughout my time in school and as a teacher every student has a passion for something, so I do my best to find that and adjust my teaching towards students' passions and life goals. I had some amazing teachers in my life and if I can be half of the educator and mentor to my students they were to me, I'll know I have made a difference.I am so happy to be tutoring for Varsity Tutors and look forward to assisting my students and watching them grow and reach their full potential not only as a student but as a young adult.

"You are never too old to get an education and learn something."This was a statement that my father said to me on a daily basis. Today, I carry that statement with me everywhere I go.I graduated high school in 1979 after dropping out in the mid 70's. After that, I took a few college courses to give me a leg up in raising my children. I tutored them and showed them how to read and write before they even were in school. I entered the U.S. Army and served for 9 years, then after leaving the military, I became a stay at home mom to teens.Eventually, I went back to college and earned my A.A.S. in Medical Assisting and became Certified in that field after few years I attended Ashford University an online school and earned my B.A. in Social Sciences with Education. I'm currently attending Northcentral University another online school for my Master Education degree in Curriculum and Teaching.I also work as a house substitute in 2 inner-city schools teaching all grades. Later this month I will sit for my Alternative Resident Educator license in Integrated Social Studies, then later this year I will once again sit for my Integrated Science test which I hope to licensed in as well.I love teaching students who have the drive to learn no matter much they don't know I find they always looking for the answer somewhere and I want to see them get to the point that they understand the answer and look for the next step to learning. This entices them to read/write and be creative
