About Me

I received a B.S. in Chemistry, as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Connecticut. My areas of specialization were Organic Chemistry and Organic Photochemistry. I did my postdoctoral research in Cell Biology and Biochemistry at SUNY Stony Brook, where I was subsequently a research scientist. As a graduate student, I was a teaching assistant for general chemistry, undergraduate organic chemistry lab, and advanced organic chemistry lab. During my years doing undergraduate and graduate research, as well as my time spent as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist, I supervised undergraduates starting their own research careers. The most valuable lesson that I have learned in my career is not to be afraid to make mistakes. Struggling through a subject can force a student to see problems from different perspectives, which leads to more confidence and better problem solving ability. The trick is to filter out the stress of struggling and focus on acquiring the skills necessary to master the subject. My role as a tutor is to help students gain this focus and increase their self confidence in the learning process.
