I am a graduate from Rochester Institute of Technology with a master's in Game Design and Development. My passions lie in everything related to games and mathematics. In the past, I have tutored various subjects in mathematics throughout high school and college, including but not limited to Algebra, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematics of Graphical Simulation, and Linear Algebra. As for technology, I am more than happy to reach out for help in Web Development (HTML, CSS, Javascript) or C# programming. I believe that every person can learn any topic. While every individual has different tastes, strengths, and weaknesses, there is no such thing as an "incapability" to know a subject. Education often possesses a guise of anti-fun, but I can promise you that all topics can be engaging, and I am willing to show you how engaging mathematics and technology can be. As a Game Designer, I have a deep interest in both playing games and making games. This includes games of all kinds: video games, board games, tabletop role-playing games, trading card games, miniatures, and even some sports like tennis or ping pong. Games act as a fantastic teaching tool. They teach by design without users recognizing. It is always a satisfying moment when somebody says "I learned that word from Magic" or "D&D taught me that." Remember: you can succeed. If something is important to you, then it's always worthwhile.

AP Pre-Calculus covers function analysis, trigonometry, and modeling at a pace that can overwhelm students who've only seen these topics casually. Joey's scientific computing work at Penn demanded fluency with polynomial behavior, transformations, and rate-of-change reasoning — exactly the skills this course tests. He teaches each unit by tying abstract function properties back to problems students can visualize.

Where most students stumble in AP Pre-Calculus is the shift from computing answers to reasoning about how functions behave across different representations — tables, graphs, and equations all telling the same story. Bioengineering doctoral work at the University of Maryland had James building and solving the same polynomial, exponential, and trigonometric models that AP Pre-Calculus tests — except his were describing drug delivery kinetics and tissue growth curves. One of the most important things in tutoring math is to make sure students understand why a mathematical procedure works, not just how to do it. When student know how to do the procedure, but don't understand why it works, they will forget the procedure or misapply it, or worse, they may begin to hate math, not because they can't do it, but because they don't understand its relevance.

I am a graduate of the University of Florida as well as the University of Washington, where I earned my Bachelors and Masters degree in Applied Mathematics, respectively. Since graduating, I have worked in different I.T. capacities such as Quality assurance and programming, but I have always made time to tutor students in math. Helping others to do math is one of my passions because I know how good it feels to go from "what is this math?" to "this actually makes sense!". Although I tutor all math courses ranging from 7th grade level through undergraduate level, algebra has to be my favorite math to tutor because I see it as the starting point of mathematics; it's the course where students are introduced to conceptual math. Getting a solid foundation in algebra affects all future math courses as well as science courses. Outside of tutoring, I like to work out, play blitz chess, and watch basketball and football.

I have a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, with additional graduate studies in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science, and over 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring STEM subjects. I work with students of different ages, backgrounds, and learning styles in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and related subjects. My goal is to identify where a concept becomes unclear, explain it from the student's perspective, and help them build both understanding and confidence. Hi, I'm Laura! I graduated summa cum laude from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics and a minor in sociology. There, I earned the Frances B. Huston award, the most prestigious award given to graduating students, for excellence in academics, leadership, and community service. From there, I became a student at the University of Washington (UW), earning my Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and a position as a PhD student in the department. I was also awarded the Carl S. Pearson award for academic excellence in the Master's program. I have been working as a PhD student since then, with expertise in all types of math including algebra, calculus, linear algebra, and numerical analysis, among others. I also have years of experience coding in both python and matlab! I spent three years as an undergraduate teaching assistant, helping teach both high school and college level math classes. I also taught multiple sections of calculus at the University of Washington as a Master's student, and I have served as a teaching assistant throughout my time at UW. My favorite thing about these positions were the opportunities to work one-on-one with students, developing new approaches to help them understand difficult concepts. I love coming up with new examples or intuitive ways of thinking through math problems. I think everybody can learn math, and I love helping students of all ages and backgrounds achieve their mathematical goals!
