For over 16 years I have partnered with students in kindergarten through college to assist them in reaching their academic potential! I have a B.A. from UT Dallas in Interdisciplinary Studies, M.A. from Amberton in School Counseling, and M.Ed. from the University of North Texas in Educational Administration. I pride myself in learning about my students and their needs, and I want to build a rapport with them to build their confidence and academic skills. I specialize in elementary reading skills, social studies, and test preparation. I also specialize in TEXES exam preparation. My personality is Texan, southern, very warm, and friendly! I am a junior Computer Science major in the College of Engineering at Cornell University. I have experience tutoring in the National Honor Society in high school, as well as on numerous occasions with acquaintances of mine who were struggling and needed a hand. I tutor high school computer science especially in java and python, as well as algebra (1 & 2) and calculus 1. I love tutoring the math subjects especially, because I feel very comfortable with the subjects and enjoy abstracting them in different ways to help any individual. I also play guitar and know upwards of several hundred songs.

Mr. Fischer serves as a tutor at Varsity Tutors with a specialty in multiple medical disciplines. He attended the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he attained his EMT-B and Paramedic certifications through the Pennsylvania Department of Health. He transferred to Reynolds Community College, where he graduated with an associate of applied science degree majoring in paramedicine. Mr. Fischer furthered his education at American Public University System where he graduated with a bachelor of applied science degree majoring in health sciences. Mr. Fischer is certified as a National Registry Paramedic through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and is board certified as a Tactical Paramedic by the International Board of Specialty Certifications. Mr. Fischer is also an ALCS and PALS Instructor through the American Heart Association, and an AHDR, AMLS, EMS Safety, GEMS, PHTLS, and PTEP Instructor through the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Mr. Fischer has ten years of medical and public safety experience, including positions within Pittsburgh and Richmond area hospitals, the Fire Department, EMS, and Federal Law Enforcement, where he not only served as a paramedic with an extended scope of practice, but also as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer.

I am currently an undergraduate student on the pre-dental track. Both my academic and professional experiences have served me well in applying my different skills and my problem-solving abilities, to allow me to address challenges and to achieve results. I am also focused and attentive to detail when addressing high-volume tasks, along with being inspired to make a positive impact in the education field. I used to be a teacher assistant at Sunday School, I tutored middle school students in English and Math, and I assisted other high school students study for standardized tests at my local test prep school. During my many experiences teaching and tutoring children and students younger than me, I have found that many of them still try to achieve instant gratification through their studies, although that is simply not possible. I aim to avoid teaching "plug-n-chug" methods to solve problems, but help my students understand the underlying concepts so that they can become more versatile and proficient in that subject. This is much more time-consuming and difficult on both the tutor and the student, but it is likewise much more rewarding and lasting.
