Hello! Nice to meet you! My name is Alisha E. Teaching is my passion! When I see the looks on my students faces when they achieve academic success it makes me so proud! I am very much a people person which helps me reach all the students I teach, whether adult or child.I am an Arizona Certified teacher with a valid fingerprint clearance card. I grew up and went to high school in the Philadelphia area and then attended the University of Arizona where I earned a degree in Political Science. I earned my Master's degree in Education Leadership and Administration at Northern Arizona University. After spending 11 years teaching in Paradise Valley Unified School District, it was time for a change so now I am now a full time tutor. My experience as a teacher was not solely in the classroom. I have spent 10 years tutoring home bound students for the school district in a wide range of subjects, but focused mainly on math. (I tutor up through Algebra 3-4 and Geometry. I can tutor most subjects through the high school level aside from foreign languages and sciences.) In addition as a teacher, I was a leader on my campus as part of our leadership team and Student Council Adviser. My philosophy as a tutor is to work with the student one on one and to connect with him or her. As a middle school teacher, by doing this, I was the fun, popular teacher on campus. My performance evaluations say that, and I have thousands of former students who would say that as well, but most importantly I get results!I would love to help you out! Contact me now so I can help YOU achieve SUCCESS!Sincerely,Alisha E., M.Ed.

I am a software engineer with a degree in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Chinese. Currently I am working towards going to graduate school for computer science. I studied abroad in Beijing, China, for my junior year of high school, where I took intensive Mandarin Chinese courses, immersed myself in the local culture, and traveled throughout China. During the summer before my sophomore year of college, I was awarded a Chinese Flagship study abroad scholarship and took 400-level Chinese courses at National Taiwan University. I can read and write with both traditional and simplified characters. Tutoring has given me many wonderful opportunities to engage with disciplines that I am passionate about while guiding students in becoming better learners. My primary experience has been tutoring elementary and middle school students in humanities subjects and math. In addition to this, I have tutored primary and secondary school students in Mandarin Chinese both privately and as a teacher's assistant for two summers at a Chinese school in my hometown. Beyond academics, I enjoy reading, drawing, traveling, cycling, watching films, and cooking.

I've tutored math (K-12) since 2016 with an emphasis on algebra and high school test prep concepts. It's never too early or too late to build foundational math skills. I believe a student at any age or level can benefit from practicing core skills while introducing logical and efficient solutions into their math repertoire!

I am interested in bettering your educational experience in the Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Math! If you or your child is struggling with math or science courses or, perhaps, is preparing for a standardized test that requires application knowledge in these areas then I may be the guy for you! I am also interested in tutoring individuals who are working towards acceptance into a professional school that might have been out of school for a while.I have experience in private tutoring to elementary/middle school through college level students in math and the sciences and have helped many achieve goals that seemed unattainable. I have done this by establishing what areas of the subject are most troubling to students and focusing on them by using a variety of different sources. I have many textbooks and class notes, manuals, etc. that the students can use to have multiple viewpoints on the same subject.I also believe that a person learns best when they are able to recap and teach the subject to another individual. Therefore, I provide not only the details in a subject, but also a bigger picture motif that enables the student to make real-life connections with what they are learning and gives them enough understanding to be able to "teach" the topic. As someone who recently graduated Arizona State University with a B.S. in Microbiology, I understand the hardships that many students must face in large classroom learning environments and so I can relate to younger or more mature adult students. I have much experience in working in a lab setting where application and science work in tandem so I realize the necessity in flexibility and the importance in explaining the exceptions to the rules that we learn in science. My studies have led me to pursue a career in dentistry and I will be beginning dental school at UCLA in the fall so I am also an ideal candidate for more specialized test prep. such as for the DAT, OAT, PCAT, and MCAT. I am also available for ACT test prep. and I am flexible and open to new endeavors and experiences!

I received my Associates Degree in Elementary Education from Scottsdale Community College. Shortly thereafter, I completed my Bachelors Degree from Northern Arizona University with a dual major in Elementary Education and Special Education. My experience working with and tutoring children started when I was a para-educator at an elementary school while completing my degree. While working this job, I was able to work with students and help them to be successful in both their academic and social goals. Along with being a para-educator, I was able to work with students when I was completing my internships and student teaching for my degree. While student teaching, I worked with both high school students and elementary aged students. For the high school students, I would work with them in the areas they struggled most with, and we would have tutoring sessions daily to help them understand the subjects they were struggling with. With the elementary students, I would help to build the foundation of their knowledge in both math and reading comprehension through my lessons.I tutor in math, reading, reading comprehension and writing. My favorite area to tutor would probably be math. The reason for this is because math was something I always excelled in, and something that I would take joy in understanding while growing up. That love has not gone away and I love sharing my excitement for math with my students. I also love tutoring in reading and writing because although these subjects never came easy to me as a child they are things that I loved doing and worked hard to excel in.My tutoring style is characterized as laid-back. I want to understand my students strengths and weaknesses in the areas they struggle with so I can help them in the best way possible. I want to help to turn these weaknesses into strengths and help the students become confident in their abilities.Outside of tutoring my interests are in sports. I played competitive soccer growing up, and that consumed most of my life and helped to mold me into the person I am today. I also enjoy being outdoors and completing obstacle courses. I am always up for a challenge.
