I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. After college I went to medical school and received an MD from SUNY Upstate in New York. My favorite subjects to tutor are neuroscience, neurophysiology (I love the brain!), biology, and anything biology related. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in college, and also served as a teaching assistant during medical school, as well as taught medical students during residency. My teaching philosophy is really to identify each individual student's learning style and try to tailor my approach to that. Everyone learns differently, so I think it's best to avoid a one size fits all approach. I have been a student for most of my life! So I have had a lot of exposure to teachers and tutors with different styles and remembered what I liked about them, what worked, and what didn't. I think the best tutors and teachers that I have had were able to communicate clearly, adapt to their students and adjust their styles, and also had a passion for their subject that was infectious. I only tutor subjects that I love. Because if I'm bored by an area or not enthusiastic, how can I expect my students to be?Outside of academics, I like to watch movies (especially sci/fi fantasy), play video games, read, walk my dog, and travel.

My name is Fairooz, and I am currently a third-year medical student at Upstate Medical University. Ive always wanted to be a doctor for as far back I can remember. I recall the visits made to my pediatrician during my early days. The little girl in me could not help but be mesmerized by the doctors qualities: his patience for his long hours, his kindness, his empathy, his eagerness to listen, and his intelligence. His image remained in my mind as the kind of person Id want to be, and I try to apply many of these qualities to all my interactions, whether with patients or with students that I tutor. It is part of my personal philosophy that we should take the knowledge that we acquire over time and spread it to others in an easy-to-grasp manner. For as long as I can remember, I have always been enthusiastic about teaching others what I know, for I feel that knowledge is to be shared. I am a good listener, easy to get along with, and my main goal is to make everyone I interact with feel comfortable in my presence. This means that I am very receptive to the needs of my students and I personalize the way I approach my students based on what l feel is best for them to learn and excel. I understand that everyone does not learn best the same way. There are some students that are more visual learners, others who are more auditory learners, and yet others who learn by a combination of both. Some students learn better by reading textbooks while other require help in extracting the main concepts. I find this difference to be the most exciting aspect of teaching, as it challenges me to mold my approach each time I encounter a new student.

I am a graduate of Georgetown University, where I studied Anthropology and Portuguese.I tutor world history and Spanish, both of which I enjoy doing. For me, history is like a story; and so, doing well on a history test means being able to remember every part of a story, and being able to elaborate on that story. Of course, the tricky part is being able to memorize all of the parts of several concurrent stories. When it comes to Spanish, I enjoy helping those who have difficulty understanding the language basics, which are critical in mastering it later on. As a heritage speaker, it is important for me to not only help students with their pronunciation, but also with their cultural competency skills.Outside of work, I enjoy running, traveling (which often includes a lot of running, whether it be on train platforms or to boarding gates), eating tacos, and swimming.

Art Tutor • +27 Subjects
Literature, philosophy, and art are great, great passions of mine. I have taken several (IB, AP, and collegiate) courses in each and have received accolades for my high marks in all three disciplines. I have also taken a specialized course in Tutoring Theory during my undergraduate career, which was a rigorous semester-long workshop to train tutors for working in a walk-in tutoring center. The course was intense in its focus on all of the idiosyncrasies of formal tutoring - we even practiced ESL tutoring with students from Aichi, Japan. I have also served as a tutor in my university's library for both English and Philosophy. For art, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for Acting I, where the chair of the department has personally commended my work in the class. Most of all, however, I am delighted to share my learning with other students and hope that I can walk out of every session just as enlightened, intrigued, and happy as the tutee.

I received a PhD in political science from the University of Missouri in St. Louis. I also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Truman State University (Kirksville, Missouri). I am currently an Assistant Professor of political science at State University of New York (SUNY) in Cortland. I tutor students in a range of subjects, though I am most excited to work with students in the subjects of writing, English, social studies/civics, American history and government. I am also good at helping students develop research proposals and outlines. I am passionate about helping high school students master material that will help them be successful in high school while also preparing them for college settings. I also very much enjoy helping college students get the most out of their college education by supporting them in being successful in their courses. I aim to help students with their acute course needs as well as assist them in developing skills for studying and learning that they can use throughout their entire lives. Before getting my PhD, I worked for nonprofit organizations; this experience allows me to engage with students about government and politics in ways that are real and relevant. I also like to help students explore career paths that can utilize their interest in government and politics. In my spare time, I enjoy reading fiction, hiking in one of the many beautiful state parks in upstate New York, and volunteering with organizations that help animals.

A #2 pencil and a dream can take you everywhere.I have very good understanding of the subjects that I tutor, as proved by my academic records. I also have a great passion for teaching. I've been a calculus facilitator at Syracuse University for two years in my undergraduate study, which can be described as an "alternative TA." My experience also includes one semester one-on-one tutoring with a college electrical engineering student. I love teaching and I love helping students out. When I heard back from my students saying: "This makes much more sense now.", I feel eternally happy for them from my heart.

Being a graduated law student, I have great experience studying for the LSAT exam. I spent 6 months trying to figure out the best course of action for studying. I took courses and I did self-study, and I found the best success when I did self-studying.I am in law school because I was inspired by my late uncle who was a district attorney for sixteen years. He was such an inspiration to me as a child, and I did not feel like I fit in anywhere until I found my place in Criminal Law when I took a class during my undergraduate years.I have a passion for teaching other people what I have learned about taking this exam. I received a score of 22 out of 23 on the Analytical reasoning section of the November 2018 LSAT, and I have helped multiple people improve their score. I thought I would expand my tutoring circle by joining the Varsity Tutors team.
