My experience in tutoring and teaching others started as far back as when I was in elementary school with Japanese, as I was already fluent in the language I would help out my peers and even younger students in simple things like reading and writing. Come middle school I was assigned as the Japanese tutor and helped various students of different backgrounds after school, and even aided the teacher during class. I completed the high school Japanese curriculum, Japanese 1-4 and the AP Test, and moved on to being a teacher's assistant, continuously tutoring and helping the teacher during class. I even managed to coach the school's first team to compete in the National Japan Bowl Tournament. I also credit a Japanese Camp that I participate in during the summer, for in the past 5+ years of being a counselor there I have learned even more about teaching and engaging students and kids in learning about the Japanese culture, and language. (The camp is conducted solely in Japanese, but is not limited to those with a Japanese background, or language knowledge, although recommended.)Aside from Japanese, I also helped out my classmates through the Peer Tutoring program at my school in Biology, Psychology and SAT prep, as I was deeply interested in those subjects, and previous teaching experience helped enormously.Now in college, I am the president of 2 very different student organization on campus. One of those, Japanese Student Association (which is not limited to those who are Japanese), not only conducts meetings to spread the Japanese Culture but also conducts Japanese lessons for our members. I've had a wide variety of writing and editing experiences. I've interned for a local publishing and editing house, and have assumed writing and leadership roles in every written publication on my campus. My goal is to help students improve their grammar and usage skills, written voice, and overall paper or essay cohesiveness and creativity. Improving writing skills is essential to being an excellent communicator at high school and college levels as well as for future employment.

I am also a native Spanish speaker and I have taught online and onsite classes. I love teaching my native langue, and I think that knowing both languages helps me understand the difficulties a non-Spanish speaker may encounter on the way. Since I am from Guatemala I have a very clear and neutral accent that can be easy even for a beginner student.Besides that I have worked in bilingual schools, where my position has included elementary ESL, Phonics, Grammar and Spelling, Reading, Science in English instruction for Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade students. I also worked at the American Guatemalan Institute for five years as an ESL instructor for elementary through high school age students, as well as adults, in the fields of business and education. With such varied classroom experience, I have worked with students and adults from a range of backgrounds and was continually challenged to modify my teaching to meet diverse student needs, abilities, and learning styles.As a Director of Programs with Maximo Nivel in Antigua, Guatemala, I oversaw both the Volunteer and Internship Program and the Spanish Language School.
