The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental skills in the production of journalism across print, multimedia, web, and broadcast/radio platforms and to develop knowledge of journalism history, ethics use, and management techniques related to the production of journalistic media. Freshmen interested in working on newspaper or yearbook staff should sign up for this class.

Provides basic instruction in newspaper journalism. Covers what is/is not news, news gathering process, basic hard news features. Students acquire real-world experience as they function as staff writers, photographers and advertising salespersons for the school newspaper. Students are required to sell a minimum amount of advertising to support publication costs, which are not provided by school or school board funds. Field trips, seminars, conventions and contest are available. Students in the Journalism (N) classes are responsible for the production of the award-winning Red & Black. [Honors credit available through portfolio process.] Work outside school hours is required.

Students are responsible for designing the yearbook, arranging for the pictures to be taken, selling advertisements and anything else involved in producing the yearbooks. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors learn responsibility, the importance of meeting deadlines, and working with others. Students also learn business techniques and accountability. Students need to accept responsibility and be able to work with a minimum of supervision. [Honors credit available through portfolio process.] Work outside school hours is required.

The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop and use grade 9-10 writing and language skills for creative expression in a variety of literary forms. Studying and modeling a variety of genres will be emphasized at this level of creative writing.

College-level content includes materials determined by the Advanced Placement Program and prepares students for the AP exam, which grants qualified students college credits. This curriculum is for highly motivated students and demands study and intense class time involvement. Syntactical and semantic structures of the English language as the building blocks of formal essay writing are studied in depth. Students practice writing skills to gain an understanding of the craft of writing and an appreciation of the English language. The AP exam is required. [Summer reading required.]

This curriculum for highly motivated students demands study and reading time and class involvement. While investigating various genres, students practice writing skills, gain understanding of the writer's craft and develop appreciation of literary works and sensitivity to them as shared experience. This course is targeted for grade 12 students, whose test scores on the Postsecondary Educational Readiness Test (PERT) are at or below the established cut scores for mathematics, indicating that they are not yet "college ready" in mathematics or simply need some more additional instruction in content to prepare them for success in college level mathematics. This class incorporates the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Content: Expressions and Equations; the Number System; Function; Algebra; Geometry; Number and Quantity; Statistics and Probability; and the Common Core Standards for High School Modeling.

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the study of circular and trigonometric functions and their applications. Topics shall include, but not be limited to, circular functions; trigonometric identities; graphs of trigonometric functions; particular and general solutions of trigonometric equations; and solutions of right and oblique triangles.

This course is targeted for Grade 12 students, whose test scores on the Postsecondary Educational Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) are below the established cut scores for mathematics, indicating that they are not yet "college ready" in mathematics. This course incorporates the Florida Standards for Mathematical Practices as well as the following Florida Standards for Mathematical Content: Expressions and Equations, The Number System, Ratios and Proportional Relationships, Functions, Algebra, Geometry, Number and Quantity, Statistics and Probability, and the Florida Standards for High School Modeling.

Meets requirements Graduation requirements for mathematics. This course will enable students to extend their knowledge of functions, acquire additional modes of mathematical reasoning at an introductory level, and develop the skills necessary for the study of calculus.
