The course includes thorough treatment of biochemistry, cytology, biological diversity, organismal biology, and population ecology. The curriculum is designed to prepare the student for a rigorous exam which may result in the awarding of college credit. Notes: Dissection may be a part of this course. Students may select an alternative assignment in lieu of actual dissection of an organism.

Major topics include vertebrate and invertebrate zoology and the ecological relationship between animals and their environment. Selected topics in field biology are presented to provide opportunities for students to apply their knowledge of zoology and ecology in natural environmental settings. Laboratory work, including dissections, is an integral part of this course.

This course will provide an introduction for college bound students to science course work in the International Baccalaureate Program. This course acts as a gateway to the higher level science courses and lays the groundwork for scientific method, data collection and analysis, and general laboratory technique. The students in this laboratory course will first study basic biological processes that apply to all organisms. These initial investigations will focus on cytology, bioenergetics, and genetics. After mastery of basic biological concepts, students will then relate these processes to organisms as they study progressively complex life forms. Students will relate form to function and role in the ecosystem for selected organisms as they study microbiology, botany, and invertebrate zoology. Students will be evaluated on both written and lab work, as well as a yearlong project. The emphasis in all lab work will be on data analysis to develop critical thinking skills.

This course in the life sciences is designed to prepare students for the college study of biology. The course focuses on cell physiology, tissue structure and function, human organ systems, health issues, and a survey of technological advancements in the field of medicine. Laboratory activities center around vertebrate dissections.

This course is a practical survey course in which students learn about ancient, classical, and modern astronomy and cosmology; construct their own simple instruments, and learn observational techniques using binoculars, telescopes, and the naked eye. The program of observation will include lunar phases and mapping; mapping the planets and charting their motions, star mapping and observation; and observing deep-sky objects such as galaxies and nebula. Classroom study will include early astronomy, orbits and gravitation, structure of the solar system and types of planets, satellites, rings, comets, meteors, and asteroids, structures and evolution of stars and galaxies, and cosmology.
