This course is a laboratory science course for the college-bound student. The course emphasizes detailed knowledge of the central concepts, principles, and basic factual material of the following topics: introductory biology; organisms and their environment; plant classifications; plant cells; plant physiology, reproduction and growth; plant pathogens and diseases; and soils as the chemical foundation for Agricultural Biology. The Future Farmers of America Organization and the requirements of the Supervised Occupational Experience Project will be covered.

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop, strengthen, and enhance their leadership and competitive event participation. Emphasis will be on active FFA participation including, career development events, leadership training activities, competitive events, and awards opportunities. Additional instruction will occur in the use of computers to mange these activities and events and to complete award applications. Students will be required to maintain a California FFA record book and submit FFA award applications. Classes will meet two hours per week during zero and/or seventh period. This course may be repeated for duplicate credit.

This course specializes in agriculture construction and engineering. It gives the student a further review of advanced technologies of arc welding. Specific units of instruction include: welding stainless steel, cast iron, cast steel, and aluminum; and specific applications in underwater arc welding, galvanized steel, steel pipe, and arc gauging. Student projects and handson learning are stressed, and FFA participation is recommended.

This course is designed to heighten student awareness of the economy and how it is affected by agriculture. Instruction combines theory with application for an integration of economic theory and agriculture principles. Units of instruction include: the stock market; supply and demand; production factors; floors and ceilings; macroeconomics; monetary policy; federal reserve market; capital resources; costs and returns; foreign trade and economic developments in developing countries. Future Farmers of America and Supervised Occupational Experience Project participation are recommended.

This is an introductory course in food science and technology. Students will learn about food science, which covers the substances we eat, their makeup including chemistry, physics and microbiology of food and the processes used to alter these substances to make them more suitable and available for consumption for a longer time. The students will learn about how the food industry has emerged by looking at a brief history of food production, food and culture - why we eat what we eat, food laws and safety, and food business. They will also learn about food equipment and safety, food nutrition and health, growing and recognizing good food. They will learn basic meat, poultry and game identification and some basic food preparation techniques. On the completion of this course students should be able to apply at entry-level jobs. As an integral part of this course the student will learn about and participate in the FFA, a premier national youth leadership organization. In addition, they will also cover the requirements of the Supervised Agriculture Experience Project (SAEP).

America's agricultural industry is the mainstay of the United States. An understanding of the American political process, its influence on agriculture and the individual will be the main focus. Students will study the constitution, governments, federalism and the U.S. Farm Bill and policies. To gain a working knowledge of which agencies of government affect particular problems in the lives of citizens, students will be prepared to vote, to reflect on their responsibilities, and to participate in community activities. Hands-on activities are stressed. Supervised agricultural experiences and FFA participation are required.

America's agricultural industry is the mainstay of the United States economy. This course will allow the student to diversify his/her study into a very competitive and complex field of agricultural leadership and management. This course will cover: leadership categories and styles; developing leaders; communication skills; reciting; prepared speaking; extemporaneous public speaking; basic parliamentary procedure; group dynamics; and conducting successful meetings. Hands-on activities are stressed. Supervised agricultural experiences and FFA participation are recommended. This course may be repeated for duplicate credit.

This course completes the agriculture mechanics sequence by giving the student basic hands-on experience in tractors. Specific units of instruction include: an introduction to modern tractors; preventative maintenance; and operation, repair and storage of tractors. Student projects and hands-on learning are stressed, and FFA participation is recommended.

This course will give the student basic knowledge of theoretical and hands-on knowledge of the general field of agricultural mechanics. Specific units of instruction include: career options; shop orientation; personal safety in the shop; record management; hand tools; fasteners and hardware; layout tools and procedures; selecting, cutting, and bending metal; fastening metal; and preparing and painting metals and woods. Student projects and hands-on learning are stressed, and FFA participation is recommended.

This course explores the art and skill of arc welding. Specific units of instruction include: fundamentals; safety; installation and maintenance; variables in metal fabrication; consumables and machinery; and welding costs. Student projects and hands-on learning are stressed, and FFA participation is recommended.

Agricultural Natural Science is a college preparatory course, which includes chemistry, physics, astronomy, soil science, California water, and oceanography components that align with the District and State Science Standards. Laboratory work investigates core concepts in the physical science standards and is designed to reinforce agricultural subject area content. This course is intended to meet all state mandated learning essentials in the area of physical science while integrating environmental science and physical science using agricultural concepts as themes, and the agricultural facility as an environment for students to gain laboratory experiences. Major course components included: Newton's Laws; energy transfers; properties of wave motion and electric and magnetic phenomena; periodic trends; bonding; conservation of mass and energy; nature of matter; properties of solutions; atomic structure; structure, scale and change of the solar system; the Earth's atmosphere; geology; physical and chemical properties of rocks and minerals; plate tectonics; role of the ocean in weather and climate; geochemical cycles; natural resources and natural hazards; and how life earth affects the atmosphere. FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs are required components of this class.

This course provides students with the opportunity to strengthen their Supervised Occupational Experience Programs and Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs. Emphasis will be on intensive hands-on learning activities, which are conducted in the local community. Programs will include livestock projects, horticulture projects, floriculture projects, vegetable projects, agricultural mechanics projects, and agricultural work experience projects. FFA participation is required. Additional instruction will occur in the use of computers to manage these projects and award applications. Students will be required to maintain a California FFA record book and submit FFA award applications. Classes will meet two hours per week during zero and/or seventh period. This course may be repeated for duplicate credit.
