This college-level course requires students to write in a variety of modes and for various audiences. They analyze fiction and non-fiction prose and poetry. Course content emphasizes analysis of rhetorical techniques and their application to a variety of writing situations. Students will also develop skills in collaboration and communication. Students will be prepared to take the AP Language and Composition Examination in May. In addition, instruction will develop skills in critical thinking, effective discourse, collaboration, metacognition, and Common Core State Language Standards.

In this college level course, students study literary works from different periods. Careful attention is given to close reading of literary texts and to their historical context. Students are expected to read complex texts with understanding and write complex prose that communicates effectively with mature readers. In addition, instruction will develop skills in critical thinking, effective discourse, collaboration, writing calibration, and reflection. Students will be prepared to take the AP Literature exam in May.

In this course, high school juniors will encounter the American literary heritage from its beginning to the present. They will become familiar with the traditions from different periods in literature while reading essays, poetry, short stories, and novels, historical speeches, essays, and other pieces of non-fiction written by foremost U.S. writers. Analytical reading instruction will extend understanding of literary elements and language. Writing instruction will extend their development in the three modes of writing as outlined by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and College and Career Readiness Standards: narrative, expository, and argumentative. In addition, instruction will develop skills in critical thinking, effective discourse, collaboration, and metacognition, and CCSS Language Standards.

Students write personal narratives based on their own experience and short fiction drawn from their imaginations. Characterization, point of view, description, dialogue, and other narrative techniques are practiced in addition to other writing techniques appropriate to all other forms of writing. Opportunities may also be provided for writing poetry. Writing a term project is part of the course.

Ever thought about how social media impacts teen mental health? Should rules around college sports be changed? In English 10: AP Seminar, students choose what real-world or academic topics to investigate. Students learn to research a problem, analyze evidence from experts, and synthesize information from multiple sources. They will also present their perspectives through writing and multimedia presentations, both individually and in groups, using Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. During second semester, students complete the AP Seminar Performance Tasks, which include a team research project and presentation as well as an individual research-based essay and presentation. They will also prepare for the AP Seminar End-of-Course Exam. This course fulfills the 10th grade English graduation requirement.

Algebra 1 is a foundational Algebra course aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics that develops students' problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills through the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. Building on key concepts from the Integrated Math Topics courses, this course deepens students' understanding of functions, equations, inequalities, statistics, and mathematical modeling, while integrating real-world applications to prepare them for success in Geometry, Algebra 2, and beyond. Students will explore one-variable and two-variable statistics, including data collection, scatter plots, correlation coefficients, and categorical data analysis. They will deepen their understanding of linear equations, inequalities, and systems, focusing on modeling real-world relationships. The course also introduces linear, exponential, and quadratic functions, emphasizing representation, analysis, and interpretation across contexts.

Algebra 2 is a second-year algebra course aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics that develops students' problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills through the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. Building on concepts from Algebra 1 and Geometry, this course prepares students for advanced mathematics by focusing on functions, polynomials, trigonometry, and statistical analysis. Students will explore properties and transformations of functions, including quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. The course also covers polynomial identities, rational expressions, and equations, extending to complex numbers and rational exponents. Students will engage in mathematical modeling, analyze data using statistical inference, and apply their learning to real-world contexts, furthering a strong foundation for future courses.

Geometry is a high school course aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics that develops students' problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills through the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. Emphasizing a transformation-based approach, the course integrates algebraic concepts and prepares students for advanced studies in mathematics by building a strong foundation in geometric reasoning and proof. Students will explore compass and straightedge constructions, geometric transformations, and proofs of triangle congruence and similarity. They will study right triangle trigonometry, volume formulas, and the effects of dilation on area and volume. The course also includes quadratic equations, where students model and solve problems using various methods while expanding their understanding of the real number system. Students will analyze relationships in circles, introduce radian measure, and extend probability concepts to include independent and combined events, connecting their learning to real-world contexts and applications.

The AP Calculus AB course follows the Advanced Placement syllabus and prepares students for the AP test in May. Course study will include properties of functions, limits, differential calculus, and integral calculus. Use of symbolic differentiation and integration techniques are also included. Use of the graphing calculator is an integral part of this course, and its use is required on the advanced placement test. AP Calculus AB is meant to be taken instead of AP Calculus BC, not before AP Calculus BC. The two courses are not sequential as the BC course contains the entire AB course. This is a 1 period course, but the high school credits are tied to the 10 college credits available. Students do not need to earn the college credits to earn the 2 high school credits. Students will be prepared to take the AP Calculus AB exam in the spring.

The AP Statistics course follows the Advanced Placement syllabus and prepares students for the AP test in May. Course study will include the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students will be introduced to four broad conceptual themes: exploring data, planning a study, anticipating patterns in advance and statistical inference. Use of the graphing calculator is an integral part of this course, and its use is required on the advanced placement test. Students will be prepared to take that AP test in the spring.

This introductory biology course is designed to engage students in the core concepts of biology with some earth science. Students will use phenomena to explain ecosystem dynamics, genetics and heredity, and evolution. Students use the practices of scientists and engineers: asking questions, developing models, designing and conducting investigations, using mathematics and computational thinking, scientific explanation and argumentation.

This introductory chemistry course is designed to engage students in core concepts of chemistry with some earth science. Students will use phenomena to explain atomic theory, concepts in bonding, states of matter and behavior of gases, and chemical reactions with extensions into earth science. Students use the practices of scientists and engineers: asking questions, developing models, designing and conducting investigations, using mathematics and computational thinking, scientific explanation and argumentation. This course will also provide opportunities for students to apply their understanding of chemistry to environmental science.
